Title: SNL Presidential Debate sketch last night
Post by: ProjectMaximus on September 28, 2008, 02:45:35 PM
Anyone notice when Darrell Hammond, as John McCain, proposed the alternative debates? He mentions Jacksonville for a possible blueberry pie-eating contest. For those who missed the show last night, Jax was offered as a possible site along with two other varying types of pie-eating contests in Kansas City and Dallas.

Later, Hammond suggests they have "Nude or semi-nude town hall meeting" debates in Hartford, Nashville and Seattle.

The point is, these are more or less our peer cities based on this one brief sketch, and I also love it when we're just called "Jacksonville" rather than "Jacksonville, FL."

btw, as a moderate conservative who currently plans to vote for Obama, I can admit that in general the comedy has been slanted favorably to the left, but let's try to keep the politics out of this thread.

Does anyone have a link to an online version of the skit?

I was looking for more of a "Yay, Jacksonville mentioned on national TV." And that we could stand alone as a city without the "Florida" part. When the new American Idol season premieres, I wonder if they'll keep saying "we're back in Jacksonville, FL" or if just "Jacksonville" will be enough.

And I included my little post-script to acknowledge that I (pretty unbiased in this case) recognize the political slant shown on SNL and hoped that wouldn't stir the pot. At least not here.

Thanks!

I thought it was funny that Jacksonville was mentioned. Of course it wasn't as funny as the opening sketch.
