I had lunch in the area today and Dona Maria' is either going through an extensive renovation, or yet another restaurant at this location has failed. The interior looked like it was getting gutted, all the kitchen and other equipment was on the patio, and they were tearing out drywall in the building. Many of the interior walls were left with just the 2x4's exposed.
They suck there, the Landing location is somewhat descent. I prefer La Nopalera!
Isn't the Landing location closed as well?
The food was terrible, but I did like their outdoor patio. After eating there twice I vowed never again (and I lived about 100 feet from it at the time) and after seeing they had been shut down by the health department earlier this year I knew I made the right decision. Hopefully something more substantial can take its place.
I noticed that last week when I was at Mossfire. Not a huge shock as they were terrible.
Yes its closed. There is an irish pub going in there.

Is that confirmed? If so, that's actually great news. We can scratch that from the wish list.......

I can confirm it, but not sure if I can give any details yet.
Irish pub? IRISH PUB?!
Be still, my beating heart.
Well hooray then. Now let's just hope that it doesn't turn out the be an "Irish Pub" like the one where the Amsterdam Cafe used to be.
Jacksonville Confidential and I will have a blog up shortly with some official news about the new Pub on JacksonvilleConfidential.com.
Heres the skinny on the new Irish Pub coming to 5-Points -

It'll be as Irish as Dona Maria's was authentic Mexican food. ;)

Way to think positive!
Yum, Hennleys. One good thing about working out here in St. Augustine. Kings Head Pub too. There as new pub at Palencia called Donovans and its sucking away the remainder of Kings Heads Patrons. So much so Kings Head is now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Went to Donovans last Friday with the office, it was okay, but not very pub-like. Its in a strip mall.
Anything is going to better than Donna Maria's.
I used to eat there from time to time until... I went once for dinner, ordered a sweet tea which was apparently was sweetened with salt instead of sugar.
It was 10 minutes or so after I ingested a giant gulp of ocean water before the waiter came back out to the patio. I tried explaining what had happened but of course he didn't speak English... and for the knockout punch he didn't take the drink charge off my bill.
Definitely looking forward to O’Brothers!

I have never had a very good experience at Kings Head. Last time I went was in summer of 2006 and it smelled like sewage in there. Also, the owner smokes in the restaurant.
Shes a brassy English lass, I would expect no less.

As for the smoking, it is a pub. I never smelled sewage though. That is pretty bad. She probably had a temporary plumbing issue.

She is quite a character. She can come on a little strong but she has a good sense of humor at times too.
Ive seen her physically pick a drunk guy up off the ground and throw him out. Around 1:30PM on a weekday.
(I may be exaggerating a little about the "off the ground" part, but she's feisty).

They fall under the no-smoking laws.

That's right. I forgot they serve food also. I dont believe patrons are allowed to smoke in there. She is permitted to smoke after hours though or maybe in the back.
