Take it north, cross the Trout and head to Blount Island.
All this mass transit talk and everybody has forgotten the mess I started a year ago on another board with a proposal that this city finish it's FREEWAY SYSTEM! Have I changed my mind? Not one inch...
Still I believe traffic improvements could be had for the taking by:
Upscale Southside Blvd, from Atlantic to JTB, access roads and overpasses, no cross traffic.
Finish the HART Connector, give the damn thing a name "Hart Freeway" and end it at SOUTHSIDE in a decent interchange. Oh and buy a few light poles, staying at the beach and going to a Jags-vs-"Your Team" game on this thing at night is like entering the "Twilight Zone".
Bite the bullet and build out the Emerson Street Connector into the "Emerson Freeway" with freeway extension from I-95 to Arlington Expressway.
Get JTB over the railroad and river to link up along 103Rd and create I-110
Trash the "corner" on the MLK and create the East-West MLK, all the way to Talleyrand, and if traffic or the Matthews bridge warrants it, under the river and JU to Merril Road. Rename the other leg the Harbor Freeway running N-S from the Stadium, merge it into a new Blount Island RAIL-HIGHWAY bridge over the Trout and into Heckscher Drive. "Corner" replaced with decent compact interchange.
A new NW loop railroad-highway . Highway built to convert to limited access in the future. Follow roughly Airport to Westlake and Rail Yards to I-10, via the JEA power easements.
Bet I've already pissed off everyone in the City! Oh well, he waxes poetic and goes to bed...
Good sense, innocence, cripplin' and kind.
Dead kings, many things I can't define.
Oh Cajun spice, sweats and blushers your mind.
Incense and peppermints, the color of thyme.
Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.
Incense and peppermints, meaningless nouns.
Turn on, tune in, turn your eyes around.
Look at yourself, look at yourself,
Yeah, yeah.
Look at yourself, look at yourself,
Yeah, yeah,
Yeah, yeah.
Tune-a by the cockeyed world in two.
Throw your pride to one side, It's the least you can do.
Beatniks and politics, nothing is new.
A yardstick for lunatics, one point of view.
Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.
Good sense, innocence, crippled and kind.
Dead kings and many things I can't define.
Oh Cajun spice, sweats and blushers your mind.
Incense and peppermints, the color of thyme.
Who cares what games we choose?
Little to win, but nothing to lose.
Incense, peppermints, incense, peppermints.
Sha-la-la, sha-la-la....

oh, nevermind.
Ignoring that no agency or group of agencies has the BILLIONS these projects would cost to build, and to buy the land needed ... Maybe if some of these were toll roads, they might be possible.
Given the way the good folks here defend neighborhoods against 'gummint' stomping on them, I would guess we'd have dozens of angry threads if any of these were seriously proposed.

Actually, not a bad idea, but remember, the SS Blvd residents resisted putting street lights on highway.

Should have been done from the get-go, have to overcome resistance from the Hogan Road folks.
Bite the bullet and build out the Emerson Street Connector into the "Emerson Freeway" with freeway extension from I-95 to Arlington Expressway.
Again, makes sense, but - again - strong residential opposition. Remember how the folks near Atlantic / University fought a grocery store (of course, now they have 3 or 4 story tall apartments ...).
Get JTB over the railroad and river to link up along 103Rd and create I-110
I think the engineer that last suggested that - back in the 1970s - is still hiding from San Jose hit squads ...
But it is one of the most obvious "undone" road improvements needed.

The first part (a connection to Talleyrand) was planned, but the state ran out of money. Tunnel is an interesting idea. Wouldn't the Harbor Freeway hit the Evergreen Cemetery?

Good idea, as long as you stay out of the Preservation land near the county line.

I really believe the lack of lighting on the Hart Expressway has to do with all the residents who live along that corridor. Maybe its a "dark skies" initiative. When I lived in Atanta there were parts of I-85 with NO Streetlights and I am talking a 14 lane freeway in the city (Gwinnett County), so it isnt that bad, Ock.
