Has anyone ever eaten at Chopstick Charleys on Phillips Highway? Just curious.
Hahahaha - seriously? I think it's attached to an "adult" motel........(https://businessphotosusa.com/imagedb/1024x768/2/7/5/4/5982754.JPG)
This is near where I grew up off phillips & univ. It's been there since at least I was in my mid teens (almost 30 now), which is when I first noticed it. I've NEVER seen anyone go in there and yes, i do believe it's attached to one of those notorious phillips hwy motels. You haven't lived until you've delivered pizzas to the gator lodge!
I'll stop by one day and see what the story is.

I know the hotel is called "THE JOE" . I thought it was closed because it was so deserted around the area, but then I saw someone go in. I was afraid to go inside alone. Please David, be brave and let us know!

I just checked it on the health inspector website and they do have an active license, so it must be open.
When I was a kid in the '50s, Chopsticks was the only southside Chinese restaurant around. They had good food and nice decor. It looks a lot worse now.
Um, HELL NO!
so i just called them up and they are definitely open, they close at 9pm if anyone wants to try it out tonight!
Do they deliver?
i seriously doubt that, plus from the looks of the place you would want to eat in to get the full experience

When I was a kid in the '60s, we used to go to the Golden Dragon on Beach Blvd near Southside Blvd. I think the building is the office of a used car lot now.
I've been there twice in the last week. I love this place. Certainly worth trying.
wow
I've wondered if this place was the front for some shady business for years..Never had the courage to step inside though!

There's an interior photo for those of you not brave enough to go in. I might have to pay a visit, the best food comes out of places like this :)
I drive by this place at least 3-4 times a day. I have never seen any indication that it is open. Always a couple cars parked on the side, never any activity in front. The Joe Motel I had a good idea people lived there as I could see them coming in and out of different rooms but I just assumed it was family of the owners of the motel.
I remember going with my dad to get take out back in the 60's.
This is amazing. Going to have to give it a shot for lunch one day.
I had no idea this place was still open. From the exterior, it seems like it closed down a decade or two ago. I'll have to try them out now.
Super nice owner. The first time she made me a concoction of chicken and vegetables. Enough food for two maybe three meals. One container is filled with fried rice and another one was filled with the chicken dish.
The 2nd time around I ordered sweet and sour chicken and beef lo mien.
The chicken was sweet, not a lot of sour BUT the sauce was almost like a strawberry puree! It is nothing like the kool-aid you get at other Chinese places in town. They pour it right onto the chicken...next time I'll probably ask for it on the side. Oh, and I had an egg roll. It looks and tastes like it's made fresh.
The beef lo-mein was good.
It's like home cooked Chinese food. It's not like the fast food Chinese you get everywhere else.
If you are ordering to go call it in. She'll take 20-30 minutes making the meal.
I can't wait to hear what other people think.
When you drive by look really close at the small window with the white wooden frame, on the right... if they're open then they have the classic cardboard OPEN sign... if they're not then nothing's there...
:)
Had dinner there last week with a friend. They looked closed when we stopped. The interior is as described in the "best hole in the wall restaurants" blog on this site (the blog is the reason that we went). It is dark, rundown and as my friend said "kinda scary". The gentleman that works the dining room asked if we had heard about them from Metro Jacksonville. My friend did not want to eat in the dining room once we arrived, so we got our meal to go. We each ordered the egg rolls (2 per order), the won ton soup and a entree (pork fried rice and chicken lo mien). We were instructed by the owner that we had ordered too much food. That we could easily share half of what we ordered. We were the only people in the restaurant (Wednesday). The owner instructed us to return in 30 minutes to pick up our order. We returned and the order was completed as promised. The food was very good. The won ton soup was very different from what you would usually receive, very dark with lots of Chinese cabbage. The egg rolls were large and dark golden brown. The were filled with veggies and a few shrimp. The entrees were very large and seemed fresh. The cost with tax was $18.
