MMmmmmmmm I live off lane, Saltys is okay but nothing special in my mind.  I would just as soon hit Tads just down the street.

well let me rephrase that,  I own a house off lane, presently living out of state.  Have ate at Saltys a few times, but Tads is a Diner setting has a great selection of food well done.    Has a nice selection of seafood in the evenings.  Saltys used to advertise its steaks, but Cross creek just north of Normandy on lane has MUCH better steaks

Clarks fishcamp in Mandarin. Jax Beach Seafood if you're into a more casual atmosphere.

+1 on Clark's. Great food. Personally I like Whiteys too.

Whoever is talking about Tad's on Lane must not have been around back in the days when that was The Clock, and it got shut down by the health department about every other week. They haven't really changed anything since, so I'm not sure how good it could be. It's just frozen stuff from sysco.

If you really want good seafood, the best I've found locally is that shack out at mayport with the seafood store in front and the restaurant out back with the chicken-wire windows. I can't remember the name of it, but it's just south of where the ferry crossing is. Dayum is their food good. They own their own shrimp boats, and what you eat today is what they caught yesterday. If I could just put my finger on the name...

Singleton's is the place in Mayport.  Great spot for affordable seafood with decent serving sizes.

Btw, some of the best crabcakes in the area are served at Barbara Jeans in Ponte Vedra.

I've seen ads for Jackie's in the folio stating they're under new management. Anyone tried it yet? I went there a few years ago and it was just alright.

I usually go to Singleton's for the view but I've been meaning to try JL Trent's. If you just want  some good fried fish, try Hip Hop Chicken & Fish out on Main St (old McDonald's building, next to the ubiquitous Stimulants store). I got the fried snapper and it was a massive plate of deliciously fried fish for $8. Everything I've seen people order there looks good, even the stuff I don't eat like chicken livers and gizzards.

I went to Jackies Seafood about three weeks ago on a Friday night. The food was decent.  The surrondings, not so decent.

Do you mean Trent's in the Ortega area?

I went there with friends several months ago and it was tasty!
I would def. go again.  I think I ordered a broiled combo platter.. got a ton of food. A couple sides and hush puppies!

I LOVE singleton's in Mayport. The view is great. The place literally is a shack. I think it has a lot of charm tho. The floors are crooked and they have like 40 year old stained glass bar/beer chandeliers over the picnic style tables. I had the best collard greens and scallops there. Delicious!!
