• The Thursday afterwork parties as part of the Make a Scene Downtown! campaign have been on a parking garage, in Hemming Plaza and pool side but now they are hitting the streets. Every Thursday in August, the party is being hosted by a variety of establishments from Bay to Adams streets with drink specials and live entertainment. Burrito Gallery, Dive Bar, Mark’s, The Florida Theatre bar, London Bridge, The Tobacco Shop and Jessie B. Smith Memorial Plaza are all hosts to the festivities that feature no cover charge and free parking. Go to www.makeascenedowntown.com for more information.

This is a no brainer - having a party on top of a parking garage made no sense (and the pool thing made even less sense). Hemming was okay, but there is nothing around it open after 5 (except Cafe Nola), so who is going to hang out there.
This was wall needed. We don't have much downtown, so let's celebrate what we do have, and help those existing restaraunts that have invested in downtown out a bit.
This is exactly what should have been done to begin with. Kudos to the organizers.

I liked the idea, and the actual party, of being on the roof of the garage-- it's the closet i am going to come to partying on a downtown balcony. What was wrong with the pool?
Also, aside, I am a new commentor. Thanks for having me.
Thanks for joining and chiming in Bazooka Tooth.
What did you like most about the rooftop party? Don't you think a street party supported by all of the local buisnesses would liven things up a bit more?
I haven't been to these since May/early June. The rooftop party just had a nice backdrop is all. It was nice being several stories up with the skyline in the background, but yeah. You couldn't ignore the fact you were on a parking garage.
I only stayed at the Hemming Plaza one for a few minutes. Did anyone check out the hotel pool parties? I'll agree with the other comments about moving the party closer to the established entertainment areas, it'd be even better if they could close the streets off and turn it into a block party.....but we only close streets for football and church right?

Oh, without a doubt, most certainly. But I did just like drinking and hanging out with a perspective I don't get from Mark's, BG, London Bridge, or other downtown spots. It was unique and fun. I should also say that maybe one night was enough on the garage, it seemed to lose its appeal after that.
Talk about spread out. Pick an area please. Bay area, Forsyth area or Adams area....not all three areas for a single street party. ::)
The old library, London Bridge, and Burrito Gallery...
I've been to two of them. Not impressed. To me, Friday nights at River City Brewery is more like a party than any of the Girlie Make a Scene Happy Hours. Maybe the six/seven all-women staff of the Downtown Vision office purposely exclude attractive young girls from attending.
We went to the "pool party" but they had moved it inside because it looked like rain. I was really looking forward to going back up on the Omni roof pool (Remember Level or whatever it was called?) and I thought it wasn't rainy enough to justify moving the whole thing down into the lobby - way too noisy and stuffy. The beer prices rocked. But we couldn't find any food to save our lives, either free or to buy, so we only stayed for one beer.
I won something though, and I never win things, so that was really cool.

anyone else notice this? wow! free parking and no cover!?!? wait a minute, it is always free parking and nocover at these places on a weekday afternoon/evening.
IMO this is the last step in a slow, painful death of this event.
wrong...these events survived the summertime, where outdoor events are pretty tough...attendance will pick back up in late September and October.
btw...I was at the Omni party last week....there were plenty of attractive young women...and, as for food, there were servers walking through the crowd with $1 appetizers.

Why would they do that?
