Title: Taziki's Cafe
Post by: spuwho on February 24, 2017, 10:22:28 PM
Taziki's Cafe is now open next door to the Regal Cinema on Beach Boulevard between San Pablo and Hodges. This is their first Jacksonville location.

The best way to describe Taziki's is "fast, casual Greek cuisine"

Gyros, Pasta, limited seafood, Salads with a local selection of beer and wine along with a selection of Greek appetizers like pita and hummus.

For those of you who like the fast casual brands, this will work for you.

For those of you who eschew yet another "chain", this will not work for you.

Right now the majority of the cafes are in the southeast (one in Gainesville is about to open), but they show 8 Taziki's under construction around the country currently.

We ordered some expensive entrees for our first visit, so the check was above average for a fast casual. But kids meals run around 4.99 and the average entree was 8.99 with 6.99 at the bottom and 12.99 at the top.  Next time I go I will try something more in line with the 8.99 range and see how it fares.

If you like Greek cuisine, but want the setting of fast casual, this place will work for you.

Sounds interesting (and promising). Dining options are always nice, regardless of whether they are chains or not. Jacksonville hasn't been so great for Greek food, in my experience.

Anyway, the chain is apaprently big enough to warrant a Wikipedia article:

As an aside, hummus isn't Greek. Even though one of the most popular brands you can buy is called "Athenos". It is eaten in Cyprus, though. I know I'm being pedantic, but I lived in Greece for a few years as a kid and never had hummus until I was a teenager (in Jacksonville, of all places).
