According to their Facebook page, they are permanently closed as their lease was up. The post does say a new tenant is coming in, and that they are moving their pho lady to Indochine.

Heard from a credible source today a sushi burrito place is coming into the old Pho space and that Happy Grilled Cheese is going into the Folk Food spot.

Is Sushi Burrito a place (chain?) or a concept for serving sushi?

The only one I know of in town is Kazu and their southside location also has Sashimi bowls.

Chain?  Yes.

Sushi?  Questionable.

It's not horrible for what it is.  If you like the more americanized sushi rolls at a typical place, you'll probably enjoy  this.  If you go expecting sashimi grade anything or actual sushi, you're going to be disappointed.

And the price is a little cheaper than a sit down place (at least for my normal order), it's $10-$12 for a 'burrito' and it was more than enough to fill me up.  And my glowing recommendation would be, "I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there."

Glad Kazu Sushi Burrito will be opening downtown, i've been a few times and really liked it every time.

however, me and my wife both got food poisoning the day after we ate there last week, and it was the only meal we shared... so...

A sushi burrito just sounds like something that didn't ever need to happen.

It's really just a super-sized nori roll.

Exactly!
And it is just a huge nori roll.. it's not THAT innovative, but it's pretty tasty.

As good as it is to hear about these dining vacancies filling up what's the deal with the old La Cena place? I always heard how it wasn't a "good fit" for the location but they've been there years longer than lots of places DT and even with that sweet location still nothing.

I think one of the problems that contributed to the lack of business at La Cena was the lack of street visibility. I grew up in Jacksonville and have walked down Laura many times and honestly never noticed it was there. I'd heard of it, I just didn't know where it was. Looking at the building from Bing streetview, it is evident that there wasn't much to make the restaurant stick out if you were walking or driving by. I'm guessing an ordinance of some sort prevented any sort of sign that would stick out, off the building somewhat which would make it visible to passerbys. Perhaps I'm just in the oblivious minority.

Maybe downtown needs a couple of these that point people toward places of interest: http://www.december.com/places/mke/images/mpk1.jpg

the problem with Cena wasn't visibility.  It was the fact that the owner took great pride in the extremely long time it took to cook an entre.  Famous for taking forever.
