Title: Malicious Mobile Site Ads
Post by: jaxjaguar on January 14, 2017, 09:05:54 AM
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the mobile site has been pretty much unusable for the last month or so because of malicious ads on the mobile site. They'll be things like "your android device is infected with 3 critical viruses" or "you need to download this update to continue to the website". I'm not sure if you have any way to fix this, but until then I won't be visiting the site via my phone anymore.

I've been experiencing the same thing too. I usually need to close out my browser entirely to get it to go away, but it usually comes back on the next few visits. I've only gotten it from MJ.

See if it is any better now. I've removed the ad networks that we suspect were doing this.

Seems better so far. I'll post here if they come back. Thank you!

Agreed. The ads were causing havoc with Chrome Android. One ad I couldnt place was triggering a script which would open Google Play to get me to install Uber. A couple were giving me the "your device is infected" junk.

I switched over to Firefox Android which stopped the scripts that opened Google Play but I saw more browser crashes.

Seems to have settled down now.

Sadly, things like these (happened even to large and well known sites before) are what make ad-blockers even more attractive.

It's suspected that it was probably a widget that counters ad blockers.

Hey Lake, the Amazon gift card ads are back. There's no way to "go back" without closing the tab and reopening.

Thanks. They appear to be on MJ this time. I'll see what we can do to get rid of them.
