For those of you who say the real issue in the hacked DNC emails was the tech-savviness of a 68-year-old man:

Based on a couple assumptions: (1) Cyber spying is/has happens regularly between both countries & (2) Both sides know more than they're letting out.
I would say that BT's argument has tons of merit. It's bad enough that it happened, but that impact wouldn't have been nearly as bad if it took Russia's finest cyber-cryptologists to crack into a secure server and steal material. But as is the case, they get to laugh at us and say that we were hacked with a simple phishing campaign that any 16 year old with a basic knowledge of html could have done.

I don't disagree. It might've happened anyway, but if the hackers had been able to defeat robust security measures, then we'd at least be able to say we took the threat seriously and tried.

The DNC and Podesta are PRIVATE entities - just like Sony (who was hacked by the N Koreas years ago) ... The U.S. wasn't hacked at all.
Russia's (alleged) involvement doesn't bother me and if anything, they should win a Pulitzer for investigative journalism. If the dems weren't riding dirty, those emails would have barely made news outside of 4chan.

You're still missing the point (deliberately, I'm sure). You keep saying 'if only the DNC would've followed these simple procedures, then it wouldn't have happened and we wouldn't be talking about it.' I'm saying that is patently ridiculous, because if the Russians hadn't gotten in through the phishing scheme, they would've kept on trying until they got in another way. As the article I posted notes, they're pretty good at what they do.

I hear exactly what you are saying... thank goodness government regulators and most IT professionals do not feel the same way... banking, business, power grid, transportation would have collapsed into anarchy long ago... but no worries... its illegal and all...

Yes, I am OK with it - if you have stuff important enough where someone would want to steal it, you'd better do your best to protect it, which was not the case with the DNC.
Would you scream bloody murder over your neighbor's house being robbed if you found out they never locked their doors and kept the windows open every time they went out?
Before I switched careers, I was an IT consultant for about 15 years - hacking is ALWAYS going to be around. Kids, Crooks, Government Agents, OUR government agents, etc. Is just like anything else that's bad and can be done to you by people and you just need to do your best to indemnify yourself.
Btw, this part of Arlington is have a rash of break ins and vandalism as the result of - my neighbors across the street had their cars ripped of because they don't lock their doors.... My cars, no prob. ;)
