...both in Brooklyn, and their location near JTB & I95.
Brooklyn location seemed well patronized. Too bad.
The one at JTB didn't seem to be busy. I'm sure someone else will jump at the chance of getting the Brooklyn space.
I hate to see stores close and folks lose work but Corner Bakery never really did anything for me. The couple of times I ate there, it wasn't bad but there wasn't much remarkable about it either- other than breakfast, they reminded me a lot of Panera- I think I had soup both times I went and overall, I'd prefer Panera.
The franchisee closed both locations, Brooklyn and Southside. Franchisee was probably in the wrong business, this has been a long time coming. Brooklyn location will be back filled quickly with a new breakfast/lunch oriented business.

Agreed. It seemed like a dulled down Panera and there wasn't really anything on the menu that made me want to go back.
New Restaurant.
Flying Iguana?
Meeting up with some people at Brooklyn Station to head to the Jags game. There's been a steady stream of people just realizing Corner Bakery has closed. With that said, I agree with everyone else. Other than being an easy to find location for morning meetings, I was never impressed with the food.
The location in Brooklyn would do well as a Metro Diner, Another Broken Egg Cafe, or a place that specializes in breakfast/brunch.

I don't know the reason why both locations closed but I do know that the owner/operator has extensive experience with running similar franchisee operations from here to Orlando.
Hopefully, there will be a good replacement there soon. I know The Loop was looking for a new location. That would be a good spot for them.
I liked it. The eggs Anaheim were my go to order.
People calling it a lesser Panera are being too kind to Panera. I didn't love Corner Bakery, but it was nowhere near as awful as Panera.

Vulgar Display of Power was pretty amazing - though I lost interest after that album.
While I was typing that post on my phone, it tried to autocorrect it as Pantera

Lol. I agree that CB wasn't good enough to really go back to. I feel like its one of those places that does well in urban or mall type environments but not in standalone places like in Brooklyn, Jax.

Every time I see the word "Panera" I read it as "Pantera". Well, almost every time. Would be a bit pathetic if I was still struggling, this far into a thread.
Closed? My life is over....

The Loop is headed to Marina Mile.
I'm excited for this space to change hands. I never liked CB, but was often forced to go there for company lunches.
I will step out and say I was one who liked Corner Bakery and frequented the JTB/I-95 location often and was infrequent at the Brooklyn locale.
I am not afraid to say that these in Jax were struggling. I was used to the franchises in Chicago which were better run and had great breakfast options.
The ones here suffered from poor help and managers who didnt seem to be paying attention. Days I would come in and the tables were full of previous diners remains and needed bussing.
Food orders were getting messed up more often and were taking longer in the last month.
The last manager I spoke with said the catering business wasnt getting anything close to what they expected and probably was more instrumental in their demise.
Sorry to see them go, but its a clear case that it doesnt matter what you offer, if your service doesnt match up nothing will get people back.

That would ruin my appetite :o
I had only been to the Brooklyn location once. The food was okay but the restaurant seemed dirty to me.
I visited the Brooklyn location several times. The food was ok. It seemed pretty busy during lunch, sparse in the evenings and a ghost town on weekends.
I loved the Brooklyn location and ate breakfast there often. I'm very surprised they shut down but would love to see a Metro Diner locate there.
Can someone say Egg McMuffin? ;)

Not my first choice but I could live with that - so long as there is no drive thru allowed.
LOL! It's not going to be Mickey D in there but I wouldn't say it's all that much exciting either.

As a past Brooklyn resident (and moving back next month) I don't need flashy or exciting. I just need a place with edible food and reasonable prices that I can walk to. I actually get tired of everything having to be upscale all the time. I'm trying to live here, not run up status-symbol debt.

Panera it is :D
Wish we had something comparable to Europa in Jax.
It would work well in that spot.

Fair enough. But I was simply hoping for Bento Cafe...not upscale or flashy but 10 times more exciting to me than the alternative.

Plenty of restaurant/retail space coming in the not-to-distant future.
Just saw article on Daily Record that First Watch has signed lease to take over this space.
First watch will be much more successful in that location. Better food and better fits the "lifestyle" of the area.
Best news I've read on Brooklyn today!
Welcome to the core, First Watch!

The only downside is no dinner activity at night. All that vibrancy in the neighborhood and you have the patio, but will not have anything going on after 2-3 p.m. The breakfast and lunch menu looks appealing though.
I've never been a big fan. My mom likes the one in Mandarin. They bill themselves to be a "healthy" alternative but I feel that's just a marketing ploy gone wild. Maybe they well perk up the menu for our neck of the woods.

If you call not eating Corner Bakery for dinner a "downside"...
That's clearly not what I said.
My preference would have been a restaurant that would be open into the evening hours to continue to grow the night time vibe in Brooklyn and keep some of the downtown workers in the area after 5 p.m.
With all the apartments right next door, it seems a waste that there will be nothing going on in that space after 2 p.m. Corner Bakery was open for all three shifts. With the opportunity for their replacement, would have liked to see some activity there at night.
I've known about this one since late December/early January but was told not to say anything. I'm looking forward to seeing them open.

I agree 100%. I live next door and another dinner option would be nice. One thing that concerns me is their 10 year lease. In a few years Brooklyn will be a much livelier place and having a prime corner spot close at 2 or 3 won't do long-term. At some point they will need to consider a dinner menu.
Are there any other First Watch locations open for dinner? If not, this one won't be, considering they have urban locations in denser and more vibrant districts in other cities. Nevertheless, Brooklyn will be fine. There's a lot more planned in the vicinity. ;-)
Does the Fox have dinner? How about Cool Moose?
I think there's nothing wrong with having a place there not open for dinner. The bottom line is right now, I believe office workers outnumber residents in Brooklyn by about 12:1. It was only natural that a breakfast and lunch place approach Regency Centers. Is Regency supposed to not sign the lease with them?
Yes, in a perfect world it would be nice if every restaurant there was open until midnight during the week and 2am on the weekend. We live in an imperfect world. I think the folks that first moved into Berkman, 11 East, The Carling, etc would kill for what is already in Brooklyn. Is it where it needs to be? Definitely Not. I'd argue before you're going to see critical mass of after 5 dining, more residents and retail space is needed.
The second phase of 220 can't come soon enough.

To me, its more about the location, not the business concept. That building is right on Riverside Ave and will be dark all night. I think that's unfortunate. I like the breakfast/lunch option otherwise.

The DT Cincinnati location closes after lunch as well. I suspect the entire chain does. If Regency is concerned about parking at the Brooklyn strip mall, then they may prefer someone who isn't open at night.
This restaurant was no big whoop. There was nothing outstanding about it. The food was mediocre at best.We have Panera already. :P
First Watch is a AM/Lunch only establishment nationally.
Former Southpoint Corner bakery to become Fresh-Mex.
http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/showstory.php?Story_id=549585 (http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/showstory.php?Story_id=549585)
Southpoint Corner Bakery becoming Fresh-Mex & Co.
Retired New York City firefighter Michael Toussaint and his wife, Amanda, are bringing a new restaurant to the former Corner Bakery Café in Southpoint.
Toussaint said Tuesday he plans to open Fresh-Mex & Co. Urban Grill and Cantina, a fast-casual restaurant, at 7111 Bonneval Road.
The area's two Corner Bakery Cafes closed in early December — at Southpoint and at Brooklyn Station on Riverside.
Toussaint wants to open Fresh-Mex & Co. in Southpoint in early June. "This is our first in this brand," he said, explaining that he has worked with partners on Rocco's Tavern in California and on 277 in Tribeca in New York.
Fresh-Mex will be upscale fast-casual, he said, meaning customers will order at the counter and their food will be delivered on plates and with metal flatware, he said, not paper or plastic.
Knowing that the location in the Southpoint area draws heavily from area businesses and office workers with tight lunch breaks, he wants to serve customers within 10 minutes.
Hours will be 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily with a Sunday brunch. He expects to hire about 40 employees and said he is in the process of obtaining a liquor license for a full bar.
Menu items will include nachos, chips and queso, guacamole, shrimp-avocado egg rolls, fried yuca and fried plaintains, chili with jalapeno cornbread, tacos, burritos and health-conscious bowls and carnitas, as well as desserts.
Food will focus on freshness, including wild salmon, pasture-raised meats and local produce
^ That sounds like it could be good for the area although closing at 9PM seems early if they are going to the trouble of getting a full liquor license.
Brooklyn certainly doesn't need another Mexican restaurant so glad they are going to Southpoint and not Brooklyn. We have several within easy walking distance already.
Great for the lunch crowd. That area is crazy during the lunch rush. I'm still shocked Dickey's closed.
