Title: NBA Cancels Trump Hotel stays for teams

NBA Teams cancelling stays at Trump Hotels

Even though Trump doesnt own most of them (the name is licensed like Marriott and Hilton) apparently the NBA wants to make a statement. Over reaction?

NBA getting into politics even more is dangerous.

I haven't eaten at a KFC in over 20 years because of a bad experience. Some would say this is an over reaction but neither me or KFC has suffered since. Doesn't bother me one way or the other though.  If they don't want to stay at places Trump has made millions off of through the licensing of his brand, so be it. If others decide they like those places, I have no problem with them spending their money there.

Of course not. If teams didn't want to stay at Trump hotels, fine by me. But doing it in a public way that is clearly politically based is dangerous for them in turning off lots of fans.

LOL, I doubt that.

Yeah, the typical NBA fan is probably the demographic Trump didn't need to win over to become president-elect. I don't think it amounts to hill of beans whether they stay at a Trump hotel or a Red Roof Inn to the average fan.

NBA fan here.  If the NBA is drawing a line in the sand and making their fans pick a side then so be it.  I turned the NFL off 20 years...I can do the same with the NBA.

It doesn't appear the NBA is doing anything. It seems some individual teams are deciding they don't want to stay at Trump hotels during their road trips. It's no different from some random person deciding Wawa over Dailys and Gate or vise versa. If you don't want to spend your money somewhere, for whatever reason.....don't.

In some ways. I don't know, this is so overtly political. I don't think I have ever seen anything like this from a major sports league. However, if the NBA is so worried about Trump because he is a bad guy, maybe they should quit going to China and playing games over there where real human rights violations occur every single day.

I think this is being blown out of proportion. The NBA isn't doing anything. Individual teams make their own travel accommodations. If the majority of players on individual teams don't want to stay in a Trump-branded hotel, no big deal.... don't.  There's a million other brands out there.

QuoteESPN contacted all 30 teams this week to ask about their travel plans in New York and other NBA cities that feature Trump-branded hotels, which include Chicago, Miami, Toronto and Washington.

Several teams that have stayed at the Trump SoHo in particular in the past told ESPN that they are not staying there this season but did not specifically attribute the switch to any political reason. Several more said that they've never stayed at Trump-branded hotels.

NBA teams typically make their hotel arrangements for the coming season in August after the league releases the full 1,230-game schedule for the regular season. But formal data detailing where teams stay is not maintained on a leaguewide basis.

It's an idiotic, juvenile move and they seriously underestimate how stupid it is. The NBA doesn't have *THAT* many fans as it is, and isn't *that* far removed from having their championship games on tape delay in my childhood. Keep this up and they're headed back to that status.

^Before casting judgement based off a thread title, consider the source:

The NBA isn't doing anything. This is a non-story trumped up by ESPN.
