Fixed. Sorry about that.
I wonder how they plan on St Augustine Road, and the interchange with 95, handling new traffic with the 8 story tower at Baptist South. That area is a mess during the week.
I wish they would put some ground floor retail in their new garage on Prudential or Palm to expand their food offerings and also benefit the downtown.

Agreed. They might have a tough time filling the Nira Garage, but you'd think they could fill the Palm Ave Garage.

With as many people as they will soon employ and the amount of land they will be occupying, they may need to put some retail in out of necessity. That area will be one of the densest parts of town with thousands of hungry workers.
Interesting considering they had some layoffs today.

They could do a killing but most likely will just end up adding another food court. Creating retail that is accessible to non-patients/patient's family would be great and give their patients/families more options hopefully. It would also engage the street as they are talking about anyway in trying to make it look nicer on Palm.

Actually this would make most sense because you have the Aetna building, prudential buildings and then Nemours and MD Anderson to the South. Just look at the long lonely procession to Sherwoods at shift end
^Palm Avenue would be a pretty nice street if they found a way to include some retail in the garage. I wonder if the small infill project across Prudential will ever be dusted off?

That looks great. Prudential could really end up relatively vibrant if they did it right. Someone want to propose it? ;)
It's hard to see in the renderings, but the new parking garage will also be connected to the rest of the hospital by a skyway (Baptist loves these things). They are concerned about the pedestrian path that currently crosses Palm Ave. Having hundreds of employees crossing a busy road daily is dangerous, and I know employees who have been hit crossing there.
I think it would be great if they could find another place to build the children's tower. While the Howard building isn't very aesthetically pleasing from the outside, it's interior is nice and updated and is kept clean.
Also, I think it would be great if they could incorporate a hotel into the new construction. There isn't one close by and it could have a variety of clientele while directly benefiting the hospital.
Anybody heard anything positive about incorporating some retail in the design off Palm or Prudential?
Also, with all the vacancies at the Aetna Building, making it mixed use with a hotel would make a lot of sense with it's beautiful location and the lack of hotels nearby.

How close is "nearby"?
The Lexington and Crowne Plaza are a couple blocks away. Technically the Omni on the Northbank is a Skyway stop away.
The garage has been approved without retail and the cancer center under construction won't have much, if any, as well. Also, there are five Southbank/Northern San Marco hotels within a two Skyway station ride.

Not having retail makes absolutely no sense. I mean, Baptist is building that garage one way or another, and everyone continues to be short sighted.
The DDRB approved the retail-less design within the last month or so. Perhaps they'll include some retail when they add the medical tower next to it.
Ground has broken on the construction of the garage project. Drove by it this morning.
Still no safe connection to the current San Marco Skyway station. Perhaps the expansion will accommodate those forced to play Frogger?

^ LOL. That is pretty awesome.
I love how the signs for the parking garage construction advertise it as multi-level.
Isn't a non-multi-level parking garage a.... parking lot?

What do you call that single level covered parking facility attached to your home?
You mean my horseless carriage shed?!
Ok, you've got me there... I thought "parking garage" was synonymous with multistory parking structures.

The most basic distinction is that lots are usually uncovered while garages are a structure (either by themselves or built into a larger facility). Granted they are most often seen in a multi-level configuration, they can be a single level.
