I will officially be moving into Springfield in the coming weeks so I guess I need to get well versed in the neighborhood! I have a few questions:
1. Other than Uptown and Shanty town where are the cool places to grab a beer or hangout in general?
2. Are there any hidden gem food spots?
3. Good corner grocers or markets?
4. What is something I "must know"? (I understand crime stats and want more positive or general things)
5. When is Main Space opening?!

Re corner grocers: The Springfield Superette at 7th and Pearl is the closest we have to a full grocer, and the Luna Food Store at 8th and Perry is more or less just a convenience store but serves a decent breakfast to go.
Re "must know": People can get surprisingly touchy about street parking, especially on fully occupied blocks. Best strategy is to build relationships with everyone you can on your block, helps avoid misunderstandings and people also tend to look out for the folks they know.
Add The Walnut Inn to your list - they have events and bring in food trucks and while the place has been around for literally decades, it s newly redone inside and under new ownership of the bar itself. Both the old timers from when it was a mill bar to the new in Springfield seem to be going. Out office is right next door and it does get nicely busy.
Hola's is pretty decent. Ask people about Tommy's on Walnut. Worth trying.
The Shop & Save at East 3rd and Market street has a surprisingly good selection of beer. They also have some wines and basic groceries. The guys that run it (Chris and Abe) are very friendly and will order any beer or other products that you want.
Tommy's (on Walnut near 6th St) has cheap and good breakfasts. Open 6 a.m. - 11 a.m. Cash only. The $1.50 breakfast in a cup is grits, egg and cheese.

I love Wafaa's and Island Tropics, both on Main.
Chan's is ok, not the best or worst but quick and pretty cheap.
Something to note: You will almost kill someone every day you drive through Springfield. EVERYONE walks or rides their wheelchairs/scooters/hoverboards in the street (even though Springfield is the most side walk'ed neighborhood in the city). NO ONE looks where they are going. Watch out for people (children most often, women with strollers/people in wheelchairs most dangerously) darting out into the street from behind parked cars. Cops do not care that everyone jaywalks. Try to think of it as a quirky cultural tradition, otherwise you'll just be enraged constantly.

That is the Springfield Shuffle. When I lived there, I quickly adopted it as well.
I was kinda expecting that but I think it will be a good change of pace! I'll probably be riding my own bike in the street so I'll be looking out for others.
