QuoteJacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matthew Jones was arrested this morning in Arkansas and charged with possessing cocaine, said Kelly Cantrell, spokeswoman for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Jones, 25, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center shortly after 4 a.m. The official charge is possession of a controlled substance.
Cantrell said he was arrested by the Fayetteville Police Depatment. She said more details will be available shortly.
Jones played football for the University of Arkansas.
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry...
Actually, this saves the Jags a LOT of problems. I think they should thank Matt Jones for not making the team have to make a tough decision closer to the regular season. Expect him to be cut in the next 48 hours.
Bye bye Matt... paperwork is being filled out as we speak...
Who cares, get someone who can actually catch a freaking football
Adios! we do not need this on our team.
He was going to be let go anyway. They brought in Jerry Porter for a reason.
Exactly. Jones was clearly on the bubble to be cut anyway and this is the final nail in the coffin.
I was under the impression he was already a sure trade.
Like you guys said, this should make the decision even easier.
If his fate was in doubt, he pretty much sealed the deal with this report.
He might not see the end of this day on the roster, although the Jaguars may opt to wait to cut him until he's actually out of jail. That won't happen until after his hearing tomorrow.
Attaboy, Matt! Way to make it easy for the team.
He is proving he's just a possession receiver.

:D
He was hiding the coke in his left hand when the officer asked him to exit the vehicle.
He dropped a portion of the stash on the floorboard as well.
One hand? Drops?
Is there any doubt that this is Matt Jones?

Glad someone got that. :)
And let that joke show that, despite posts on the other thread, I like football and the Jags, I just wish my private tax dollars weren't being spent to further enrich a multi-multi-multi millionaire.

I wish the same... but if you want a Pro team... Football, Basketball, Baseball... this is the reality. Even the Green Bay Packers asked for and got money to revamp Lambeau a few years ago. I suppose the city of Jacksonville could buy the Jags ala Green Bay...

Yeah, that is truly my real beef. If anyone had the backbone/balls, the NFL could be sued as a monopoly in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, anytime one shows that the NFL or local team is perpetuating a scam on us, everyone gets pissed at the messenger, rather than looking and going, "hey, you know, we ARE getting screwed!"

Its a shame that some of these guys dont realize the opportunity that they have. How many would love to have the skills and talent some of these people.Yet they find ways to ruin it.
He did a very good job at Arkansas and was mediocre to ok as a Jag. Kiss this good bye, at least on this team.
What's sad is that Jones may likely be hitting rock bottom which means a serious rebound is in order. He'll get traded, get cleaned up in rehab, and then get back to training and will make MVP.
Well, maybe not. :)
Sue the NFL Monopoly? Already been done, the USFL WON such a suit, and got $1.00 in damages, So much for "blind justice."

Who says they have the market covered, hell, there is enough team opportunities out there for a whole new major league. The damage Control folks at the WFL, USFL etc... kept the mind set that "we have to compete head on with the NFL in "New York" etc... WRONG.
By the way was Jones canned for REAL COKE or crack? If it was CRACK, chances are he's toast. REAL coke, a rich mans toy, he'll walk away, get some help and move on. (Old Hippie View)
Ocklawaha
Looks like Matt Jones is off the hook. Whatever he's done since his arrest has been working. Keep up the good work Matt!
QuoteJaguars' Jones to have case heard in drug court
Associated Press
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Matt Jones' cocaine charge will be heard in drug court rather than in the regular criminal system and will allow him to keep any conviction off his record.

He will still probably face a suspension from the NFL.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - With a smattering of applause, a judge Monday accepted Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones into a drug treatment program that could erase a felony cocaine charge against the former Arkansas star.
