I left Florida back in April and relocated to Fairfax. My quality of life has increased tremendously. The area in which I reside has a nice mix of townhomes, apartments, and single-family homes. The Vienna-GMU station has a small village development filled with apartments and office buildings. I noticed there's land around the station that can be developed for higher density development. I see how the county is encouraging walk-ups, and density with Tysons, and Reston. Glad to see Fairfax (city) is encouraging density. There's still "sprawl" but can be easily repaired and replaced. I wish Florida's cities would encourage mass transit. With a metro pop of 6 mil+ I noticed there aren't huge arterials throughout the metro region compared to what you would find in FL. There seems to be an encouragement of smart growth. Metropolitan areas throughout the Deep South can definitely learn from the DC metro area.
