How "folksy" and "down home" his delivery is. Cute little asides about things like low country boils or whatever. I guess it's just a column, but it seems a waste of column inches. I guess this is what Dave Barry, et al wrought.
QuoteI heard a resort official say recently that applicants should be high school graduates, be able to pass drug screenings and have no visible tattoos. I don't know what it is about tattoos on a waiter, but they make me lose my appetite. You throw in some dreadlocks and I'll fast like I've got a blood test in the morning.
He had to get in some racism, too. Delightful.

If he was talking about white people dreads, I'd have to agree though.
Even if he were just referring to white people, I doubt he was making a critique of cultural appropriation.
"And what's with women wearing skirts above the knee?"
Terry Dickson is from Brunswick, Georgia and is an editor for the
Georgia Times Union variant of the FTU. His columns are only part of what he writes as editor and reporter.
Some of his columns are considerably more... "folksy" and "down home" than this, being written in the voice of the Bubba Gene Hightower, mayor of the fictional town of Pond Scoggin, Georgia.

Lol, you apparently missed the large "ST. SIMONS ISLAND" dateline at the beginning of the piece.
I would love to further explore the collected writings of Terry Dickson, but I've exceeded my free-article limit for the month.

Cultural appropriation? I just think they look gross.

LOL
I thought Bubba Gump was a fictional character...apparently he's alive and well portraying a journalist in Georgia, the land of everything backwards.
