Title: Brixx Wood Fired Pizza
Post by: Kerry on May 30, 2016, 08:13:50 PM
Brixx has a sign up saying they will open on June 6.  Just went by and it looks they are doing employee training/orientation tonight.  The outdoor seating is all in place on the terrace over-looking Unity Plaza.  Looking forward to their opening.

I was lucky enough to get to attend two of their pre-opening functions over the weekend.  Tonight was a sampling of many of their specialty pizzas.  I am normally a pepperoni pizza guy but since someone else was buying I was trying.  I took the opportunity try some pizzas that I normally wouldn't order from a menu.  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how well some off the flavors worked together to make a pretty tasty pizza.  My new personal favorite was the Mexican Pizza.  I tried the pear and gorgonzola pizza on a personal dare and even that was tasty - very sweet, almost like a Hawaiian Pizza.  I also like that there are tons of TV all turned to sports channels.  It will make a great place to catch a game.  Heck, since I live at 220 I can get down there on a commercial break and don't even have to miss any of the game.

^ That's good to hear, I always felt that entire area lacked a space to catch a game.

Looked pretty crowded when I passed by there this weekend. I will have to check it out sometime this week.

Just found out that from 10PM to 1AM everyday all pizzas are buy-one get-one.

Thanks for the review. Was wondering how it was going to be.

I was there a few weeks ago and love the atmosphere but wasn't impressed by the food. Everything tasted like it had been doused with sodium including the pizzas. I much prefer some of our local places with better food.

Had a great pizza there two weeks ago on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Service was excellent, crowd slim due to weather..Our energetic server mentioned they were trying to get the word out, as things had been slow.

Returned for dinner last week on Wed around 8pm. Place about 80% full,  but very understaffed. We were greeted promptly by the hostess, seated, given water, and the usual " Server will be right with you" comment. Noticed that a lot of folks were looking glumly at glasses of water, none had beer or food...after about 20 minutes and no one coming to even take a drink order, we left. By then, people lining up at hostess desk, looking anxious. Not sure if it was just an off day?? Maybe some of the Spraga wait staff will be hired here. Hate to see this place fail. Would think that Management would be circling and offering to help.

Only been twice, but did notice that service was slow, particularly in regards to getting drink orders filled. With how much the 220 Riverside restaurants are clearly struggling, there's a very slim margin of error allowed, so that's definitely something that needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later.

I went a month or so ago. Service was fine, the decor was fine and I finished my plate. However, I can't say I'd be back anytime soon for pizza.  I don't stay in Brooklyn, and there's too many other decent options for pizza that are closer to where I live.

Brixx pizza is very 'okay' at best. I wouldn't get those meatballs ever again
