Title: Keep the Bumps and the Humps
Post by: drewshade on March 25, 2016, 12:47:25 PM
When I was woken by a Jackhammer outside of my window on Pearl St at 7am several weeks ago, I was a little upset. However, the bumps and humps caused by the work have been an absolute blessing for our neighborhood.

In the past few weeks, I have had not had to do any of the following:

1. Listen and look for cars several blocks down the road using pearl st. as a dragstrip
2.  Dodge out of the way while trying to get into my vehicle
3. Listen to the constant rush of vehicles shaking my house as they roar by
4. Guard my children while they enter or exit the vehicle

CITY OF JACKSONVILLE and Springfield Residents - Lets try to add bumps and humps to our roads to keep them safer for all of us. Speedbumps in between our roundabouts.  For the 1st time in 6 yrs, I hear birds and see more families on the sidewalks and streets. It is actually amazing to see how safe and quiet Pearl St and others have become because of the construction!

Speed tables and other traffic control improvements are being pursued by SPAR now. The traffic study has been completed, meeting with COJ reps, etc.

I'm glad you thought that, too. No one really remembers the Hammer "gangster" period. I was working at Camelot Music in Regency Mall when this came out - so it stuck with me for some reason.

The bumps on Pearl St have been the best thing to happen to this street in a long time. Cars routinely fly down Pearl St at 45mph, sometimes faster. The temporary bumps left by the construction of the sewers have slowed down traffic to a *normal* speed. I can get into my car again without having to worry about being hit by a car going way too fast to see me there in the road and we don't have to worry about car mirrors being sideswiped by those same cars going 15 miles over the speed limit down a residential road. We already have roundabouts at various places in the road but instead of slowing traffic, cars just plow right into them. Keeping a few humps positioned in the road has already proven to make the street safer for the families who live here.

The road has been repaired as vehicles started racing through the neighborhood again. Fortunately,  they gave us the gift of music and allowed everyone to hear their awesome sound systems. From the sound of the bass, I am  sure they were listening to MC Hammer.

Was almost hit by a car this morning, instead got the the thrill of a big splash from water. Im not sure this is a SPAR issue, but the only traffic study that should of been done is the one that impacts the flow of traffic from vehicles that are using the neighborhood on both the EAST and Westsides as a cut-though.

It was nice while is lasted. Maybe traffic control measure will happen before Groundworks Jacksonville starts cleanup of Hogans Creek.   ;D

You sure you're mad about the speeding?
