Wow!  That is an absolute score for Mavericks.  And it is a Friday night show?  Damn.   Usually we get the mid-week dump on these shows.

Definitely a great pull.
I went to a show at Mavericks last night and I really prefer it to PVCH.
It's not a far drive, the sound is much better than it used to be, and the atmosphere is unique and somewhat fun.
PVCH feels and looks like a "hip" non denominational or baptist church, the sound is weird, and they put out seats for events that should definitely not be seated events.

I was super happy when I saw that they were coming. I screamed like a little girl.

Seeing Animal Collective in suburban PVB just wouldn't feel right. Not that Mavericks is CBGB or anything, but at least its Downtown. Good score for Mavericks. Now lets see how the city turns out for a show like that. Like MMR said, Animal Collective aren't in their prime or anything, but they are in my opinion one of the more innovative and influential bands of their generation.

I haven't liked anything this band has done since Sung Tongs*, but hey, happy for the people who are happy about this.

*I haven't listened to the new one, but I feel no need at this point!

Good grab for Mavericks. It further illustrates our lack of good concert venues in the Jax area. I'm sure Animal Collective could be successful at PVCH or the St. Augustine Amphitheater, but it's the kind of show that would likely draw better in town than out in the burbs. And right now, there really aren't any good options elsewhere downtown. The places that exist are small or otherwise not well equipped.

Also, I haven't heard the full album but Floridada is pretty bad ass.

Let me reword my post:

"I haven't liked anything they've done since Sung Tongs, but then Sung Tongs is the only album of theirs I like from start to finish. Sure, there's some good stuff scattered throughout the rest of their discography, but I've never been as high on this band as a lot of people were (are)."

As for five songs, I can't even name five songs from the one album I actually like without looking it up. I haven't listened to it in a long time. "Kids on Holiday" was a mix staple for a bit.
