O' Brothers is closing later this month (March 28th), and the location will be turned into 5 Points Tavern. Different concept, new chef, etc.
5 Points Vintage just opened at 1046 Park Street, next to Birdies: https://m.facebook.com/fivepointsvintage/
And more on the way.
Did the Mossfire people sell O'Brothers?
Anyone remember Jeffrey Forrest? Think Crush.
That's a bummer. I really like O'Brothers.
Good. Cool space. Terrible food.

Thank sweet baby jesus. Great location turned to shit by a 1/2 ass execution. Great idea to have an Irish pub, but it was so blasé, poorly run, with bad food to boot.
I echo the sentiments of the posts before me...great idea, good food, but the service was awful and the place started looking shabby...and once they added the wooden picnic tables and all the hodgepodge of tables and chairs on the patio, it just looked like a real dump. I hope the new concept really makes the best use of that fantastic patio.
Pretty much ditto.
I used to like going there for drinks, but that tapered off with the King Street boom and then declined even further when more cool bars started popping up within Five Points.
As for service, I was always treated well, but I was friendly with a number of the employees outside the place ;)

I avoid Irish pubs like the plague. But I did go to O'Brother's once and it was not very memorable. But the name... what was up with that? I could never decide if it was idiotic or clever.

Who went there for the food? Then again, who goes to the Fly's tie for food in Atlantic Beach? Go for beer and friends. Great outside seating area. Could care less about the food or irish. Great outside area, best on Margaret street, at the street level.
They had guilty pleasure Irish nachos and good sliders, but that wasn't a place you went for food. As I started to type this post defending O'Brothers, I thought..."when's the last time I actually went there?" It's been a while. They did throw some good block parties though!
When they first opened I loved their fish and chips that came with a curry dipping sauce in addition to the tartar sauce. Last time i was there I ordered the fish and chips and they were weird nuggets. Still tasty though.
Just a few months ago they changed their menu to be "tapas style."
They didn't really understand what that meant however, and just reduced the portion size by half and the price by a third.
It was a seriously perplexing move, because while their food wasn't good at all, it was still an option for a pub sandwich or some wings for a decent price.
^ That's right. My favorite go to, slides and fries were no more and you had to get the fries separate. That was a bit off-putting. They used to do 12 dollar steak Tuesday though, i'm not sure how they sold it for so cheap, but it was a solid deal for 12 bucks.
And before O'Brothers it was a mediocre Mexican Restaurant that was meh. I remember former MJ poster "StephElf" getting mad because they were charging us 4 bucks for 10oz beers! haha. (4 was high for a beer 10 years ago, esp a 10 oz one)

QuoteFour months after O'Brothers closed in Jacksonville's Five Points neighborhood, Five Points Tavern has opened its doors.
The 106-seat restaurant quietly opened from 5 pm. to 10 p.m. last week for dinner and open until midnight on the weekends.
Serving up classic American staples, like burgers, New York strip steak and crab cakes, the restaurant is looking to attract a wide demographic with a casual vibe. Five Points Tavern leans more toward food than its predecessor Irish pub, but still serves cocktails and beer on draft, including Guinness for those missing O'Brothers. There's also a wide selection of wines, which are also sold by the glass.
The cocktail menu includes four signature drinks for now, including "Drunk In Love," a drink made with Jamaica tea, rum and lime, and "Margaret Street," which is made with Hendrick's gin, cucumber and ginger.
General Manager Hannah Alexander said the restaurant plans to open for lunch soon, catering to a business crowd. Chef Jeffrey Forrest, one of the chefs behind Crush, which used to occupy Orsay's space, has experience with that demographic, including working in a restaurant in Midtown in New York.
Alexander said the restaurant also is focused on attracting a dinner crowd that could come to the restaurant more than once a week. She said the Five Points neighborhood lends itself to that.
"It's a good scene. There are a lot of locals that are happy to come by and visit," Alexander said.
The upstairs, which was previously used as a seating area for O'Brothers, will be used as a private dining room and event space, Alexander said. That room will open to the public sometime in the next few months.
Here is hoping they do well and succeed to offer an alternative in dining in 5-points!
Was there last night and was very pleased with the cuisine.
