QuoteKroger Co. is looking to make another acquisition, and supermarket chain Fresh Market is the target this time, according to published reports.
Reuters reported Thursday afternoon that Cincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE: KR), the nation's largest operator of traditional supermarkets, is seeking to acquire Fresh Market. It attributed the story to people familiar with the matter.
Those people told Reuters that Fresh Market is in the second stage of an auction process that involves Kroger and other companies and private equity firms. It named private equity firms Apollo Global Management, KKR & Co. and TPG Capital as others taking part in the Fresh Market auction.
