So, what's really going to happen in 2016?
I think we'll have a "coming to Jesus" about Stadium expenditures that will transcend the religiosity of sports. Okay, maybe that's more of a vain hope than a prediction.
From Facebook:
Dean P.: Jacksonville will get behind the Aquarium project
Nick T. Curry will declare himself emperor dissolve the city council, religious law will rule the land lolFrom
The Jaguars will surprise everybody by not only making the playoffs, but by winning the Super Bowl. Shortly thereafter they will announce their plans to move to LA.

You mean after the Rams, Raiders and Chargers, right? Even espn has stopped saying the jags are moving.
My prediction - things FINALLY start to happen downtown, just slowly. The cowford chophouse starts a domino effect and things start popping up in between the chophouse and the elbow on bay street.
I predict that things will continue to improve Downtown and in the Urban Core. We should see some big projects wrap up - the current Brooklyn projects, Intuition Ale Works, and the early construction phase of the Cowford Chophouse. We should also see some of the currently proposed projects break ground. Hopefully we'll get started on the amphitheater and stadium projects, "The District", fixing Liberty Street, and others, and see some other good stuff announced.
One Spark will have its final festival due to mismanagement.
I hope that some of the currently proposed infill projects start going vertical. The District, the two La Villa Projects, and East San Marco. I believe that a downturn will happen within the next couple years, so I hope we can move downtown forward before that time.
RFP to revamp Skyway and extend it to the stadium and Kings Avenue garage. ;D
But seriously, it would be nice to see the Emerald Necklace plan gain traction.

Do you really think I think the Jaguars are going to move to LA next year?

Taca, Im interested to know why you are enthusiastic about this stadium district.
What do you think will be the impact and what good things do you expect it to accomplish?
I'm been hoping for an amphitheater, or something like it, in this city for 18 years. Year after year we miss out on touring acts who would otherwise stop here with more frequency because we don't have appropriate venues (and the few we do have all have serious drawbacks, such as being located on Anastasia Island). I also think the deal the city struck with the Jags to make it happen was pretty creative, making sure both sides get what they want. I fully admit I may be wearing amphitheater-colored glasses, but I think that adding 30 or so big downtown events a year and replacing mostly empty "flex space" with two new facilities (plus stadium improvements) is pretty good for what the city's paying.

Ah. I understand now. Your support of the project is really a support of an amphitheater in the downtown?
I support this specific amphitheater and the rest of the project, yes. I wouldn't support a project just because it had an amphitheater.
2016 will be the year that the Laura Street Trio project finally gets off the ground.
The positive momentum at Hemming Park will continue.
Snyder Memorial Church will be the next historic property repurposed for use as a bar and restaurant.
The Landing will maintain its current status quo.
The new ampitheater and practice facility will exceed expectations, and will solidify Everbank/Veterans Memorial/Baseball Grounds/Ampitheater as one of the great sports complexes in the nation.
Jacksonville will finally get with the program and secure naming rights for the arena. It's money that's being left on the table for well-intentioned but impractical reasons.
The Jags will finally have a breakout year in 2016.
Even though the finances might not make sense, the city will rally around the aquarium project.
Shipyards cleanup will move at a snail's pace, and 2016 will come and go with no sight of the USS Adams.
Development in Brooklyn and Riverside will continue to explode.
And 2016 will continue a pretty incredible 2015 trend that I have never experienced prior to this year. For the first time that I can ever recall, there seems to be a genuine sense of optimism and pride about Jacksonville. People are kind of falling in love with their city, rather than being ashamed of it.

I dont support the project as it is currently configured. I think it is designing an entire portion of downtown that will be completely reliant on taxpayer subsidies for the next forty years, without really doing anything for the downtown. It does something nice for the rest of the city, but it could be done with a design that actually activates the area rather than sits on top of it.
That I can understand. If it were up to me, I'd move west of the Baseball Grounds, and move the parking to the current flex space if necessary. But if it were up to me, we'd have built an amphitheater at Metro Park 18 years ago.
I predict I will move from Oakleaf back to Riverside.
I predict The Artist formerly known as Prince, The Panda's Friend (formerly Meta World Peace, formerly Ron Artest), and Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg, formerly Calvin Broadus Jr.) will all make big announcements that they will be moving to The District (formerly known as Healthy Town) once the project is completed.

Hey - I'll be honest with you - I don't like the Jaguars (organization) and don't really care about the Jaguars (team). And I'll even admit that I wouldn't be surprised to see Khan (or whoever eventually owns the team) moving the team if someone with a better deal comes along. But even I know that's not happening next year and it's not likely to be LA!
I do think it's funny you took me to task on that wild prediction - but stayed mute on the completely
reasonable prospect of the Jaguars winning the Super Bowl ???
Edit: but the only reason I previously posted that the Jaguars suck was as a joke (you had accused me of personal attacks). It didn't come off as expected.
No problem Adam, I don't take anything personal on this forum, life's too short. I just like to keep things civil and on topic.
Speaking of on topic, I hope to be proven wrong, but I don't think the jags are superbowl bound, but playoffs a definite possibility.
We're on the right track, and hoping to see us in the superbowl in a few years!
No longer is it Metro Jacksonville speculation ;). Jaxsons realize All Aboard Florida is seriously considering extending their rail system to town. This news will significantly impact our discussions on the future of the Skyway, convention center, LaVilla/Brooklyn and the roles they all can play in downtown's revitalization.
Brasfield & Gorrie, HQ in Birmingham and with an office in Jax, has been chosen to handle the upcoming work at EverBank.

They have a very interesting portfolio (they also constructed UF's new indoor practice facility):

So far, so good. This could get *really* interesting.

Looks they are also constructed the Georgia Aquarium, and are contracted to construct the new Braves stadium.

A few weeks ago, I would've thought you were crazy. But I have to admit - their recent form is promising. Plus, given that they've barely managed to lose some of the games they've lost - they could well be on the road to a winning season next year.

I definitely noticed that. It makes me think there may be far more going on than is apparent. There may be far broader preliminary discussions going on than we realize, and a relationship being built between Shad Khan's organization (led by Lamping & crew) and the Brasfield & Gorrie team.
Which would be very interesting news for Jacksonville, a possible aquarium (at Metropolitan Park ? ? ?), the USS Adams . . . and possibly much, much more. Remember, the Braves new home (SunTrust Park) will be part of an entertainment district in suburban Atlanta. I pulled this from Wikipedia:
QuoteOn July 16, 2015 the Braves and concert promoter Live Nation announced a deal to develop and manage the long-planned entertainment venue adjacent to SunTrust Park. The venue will be called the Roxy Theatre in homage to the old Roxy Theatre that was torn down in 1972. The venue will have standing room-only capacity for 4,000 and feature about 40 music and comic shows annually. The theater is designed to help drive activity to the site on non-gamedays and it will also play host to special events.
Hmmmmm . . . sounds a bit like that amphitheater we're being promised . . . doesn't it? Add in that creative Flex Field, then do something imaginative with a freed-up Metropolitan Park, and . . . we could suddenly have a Florida-friendly, Jacksonville-specific entertainment district right on the river in downtown Jacksonville in the very near future.
I predict that the City once again squanders an opportunity to truly solve the pension problem...and, as a result, continues to not invest in the fuiture.

so the UF indoor practice barn cost $15 million. From what has been made public, it seems the Jags facility is part of the $45 million that Khan is paying for. Given that the team is also doing the club section upgrades, how much do we expect the Jags facility to cost? Or perhaps it isn't realistic to think the amphitheater would cost $45 million, and that some city $ goes to the practice facility too.
So, tufsu1, you want to force some crazy accounting into the discussion? The costs are shared, not compartmentalized. The city is contributing to each, Shad is contributing to each. Who doesn't know that?
As for the "barn," I suspect it's going to be far different from those college facilities we see at Florida and FSU and a more simplified and limited version of this:
https://www.brasfieldgorrie.com/expertise/project/birmingham-crossplex/
That might just be me, though, trying to give this major donor to Big Duval the benefit of the doubt.

Major donor? More like major parasite.
I predict that we will continue to be LOST when it comes to FIND.
Next meeting 1/8/16 at City Hall.
