This years heritage days promises to be a fun time for those who are looking for a quality local event over 4th of July weekend.

Heritage Days start on Friday with a Throwback baseball game in Historic Klutho Park. The Springfield Mommies Club will kick off the festivities with their annual 4th of July Parade around the bases, followed by the National Anthem.
Springfield's own Vintage Baseball League will then take the field to play the annual East Vs West throwback baseball game. The Eastside dominated last years game, but the Westside is looking to make a comeback. there will be beer and food available at the game.
This years game will be held in honor of Tom Provost, the recent victim of a violent crime. Tom was the home plate umpire for last years Heritage Days. The award that goes to the winners will also be renamed in Toms honor.
After the game, the monthly Springfield First Friday will be held on Boulevard between 2nd and 3rd, and in and around Klutho Park. Klutho is a magnificent place to see the fireworks from, and if last years impromptu 4th of July celebration is any indication there will be plenty of food and fun to be had.
On Saturday, SPAR will be hosting its second annual music series. Last year, Jacksonville's Symphony Orchestra played in Klutho Park. this year, 9 of Jacksonville's best up and coming musicians will be playing in the park. Shantytown Pub will provide beer and wine sales, and there will be other vendors set up to make it a day full of fun and music.
Here is a list of many of the artists.

4pm
awesome! i think we will be able to make it...we have about 10 old college friends coming down from NC that weekend and most of them should be here by 2pm or so...we should be there.
I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to all of the event. The Baseball game was a lot of fun, and the turnout was awesome. Special thanks to Denise Harrison for singing a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangle Banner, as well as Kenny Logston for doing a phenomenal job announcing the game.
Ian, and the HipHop Hell crew for spinning some great stuff into the night, and to all of my neighbors and other attendees who made the 4th such a special day.
The Music Fest was also a lot of fun. We had an amazing list of artists, and I think the buzz will help make it even better next year. We are already talking about how to make it better. Thanks go out to all of the great musicians who played the event, including Christina Wagner, Pilar, Jessica Pounds, Laurel Lee, Katie Helow, Johari, Ron Rodriguez, Shawn Fisher, Mark O'Quinn, Erin Brooke, and Brandon Lucas.
Thanks also to the Shantytown crew for rocking the event hard all day, the womans club for some great deserts, and for restoring that awesome fountain, and to all of the vendors who made it such a good time.
Thanks also to all of those who came out to support Springfield. Thanks!!!
Who won the game?

Who won the game?
Lake, you know darn well if the West Side had won then DTP would be singing about it. ;D I think the final score was something like 10-7.
Yes, sadly, the Eastside won. We tied it up in the 7th, but he Eastside put up 4 more runs over the 7th and 8th. We had an RBI in the top of the 9th, and I had a big hit, putting me on second with one out. I tried to steal third as the hitter struck out, ending the game in a strike out/throwout double play. boooo :-)
The final core was 10-7, but it was a fun game to play in, and we had a great turn out.
