QuoteWawa Inc., the Pennsylvania-based convenience store and gas station chain that has opened 76 Florida locations in three years, has Jacksonville on its map for expansion.

"We will continue to expand and look for sites in the state and hope to reach the Jacksonville area in the next several years," said spokeswoman Lori Bruce by email.

City Building Inspection Division Chief Tom Goldsbury said Tuesday he met three weeks ago with an architect and civil engineer representing Wawa.

Goldsbury said they discussed general procedures, but no plans have been submitted.

I usually stop at Wawa's for gas when I'm coming back from my parents' place. Gas is typically the cheapest you'll  find in the area and their made to order subs are really good.

I've heard the same thing about their subs. I'm friends with a lot of transplants from the South Jersey/Philly area and I heard about Wawa for about 5 years before I went to one during a visit to Philly. It's...nice. Kind like a Gate station on steroids, with good food. They made it sound like the promised land though haha.

"It's a Jersey thing!"

Sheetz is better/ and I'm saying that as someone from that area.

both are really good.  I'd choose Wawa for sandwiches, and Sheetz for hot food.

As someone whom travels to Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania 8-12 times a year, I too believe Sheetz is better. It has become a ritual to stop in Summersville or Weldon every visit. The hot food is good for that type of place. Something like this in Brooklyn area would provide 24 hour quick food.

Love Wawa and Sheetz.  Aren't there Wawas already in FL?  Could have sworn I'd seen one once with friends and made a beeline for it.  Been a while for me now but yea Wawa has legit hype.

Yeah there are tons. Mostly in the corridor between Tampa and Daytona Beach. Ive been to the one outside daytona but just for gas. I don't really get the infatuation with good gas station food...

My friends in ATL introduced me to QT and I didnt get it either.

^^^Yea, it'd be interesting for me to go back now.  My standards for food, including cheap bodega type stuff, have been so elevated in the past few years that likely my opinion of Wawa would be "eh" or "ew" at this point, but back in the day when I'd gone into a couple and heard endless hype about it, it was a thing.

Is Gate listening to this? They really need to step it up - some of their stores are nice, but others are like risking your life when you go in there. They really need to step it up, they're too hit and miss, and their food has gone down hill, especially since they took out the Dandee sandwiches for their own brand.

Daily's is the best in the area in my opinion, especially the new express options (I think it is called Dash or something like that) but the food was good-for a gas station.

I mean, some of the best Mexican food I've had was at a gas station in Dallas...so there's that. lol

I'm excited to check out the one in San Marco when it's completed. Except I'm not really interested in the food

Hey, bro, I'm sure simms has had better Mexican food in cooler gas stations in Dallas than you.
