Outside there were protestors to the event, which consisted of a press conference explaining additional detail regarding his decision to turn down federal funding, making him the first candidate ever to do so since the establishment of Federal Campaign Funding followed by a brief talk with local supporters.
The protesters were relatively small in number and on the douchebaggy side, passing out flyers with paranoid suggestions and other drivel but not much substance. Definitely not the typical well informed Young Republican contingency.
"Obama is Osama" Sported one such flyer with photos of Obama in traditional african garb and graphics of the White House being blown up Independence Day Style.
Outside there were a smattering of well wishers who did not have tickets, and inside was an incredibly diverse crowd of supporters there to hear the Candidate.
Despite lots and lots of similar rallies and political events, this was probably the most racially and culturally diverse group of people gathered in a very very long time. Dressed to the nines and clearly of a certain income level, the ages ranged from 16 to the late 90s.
Obama's speech was jocular, intimate and informal, a distinct difference from his normal campaign style, especially in these past few months.
He anticipated the style of attacks that the opposition party would use against him, to the general merriment of the crowd, and outlined his public strategy for winning the white house.
He was introduced to the crowd by Bill Nelson, spoke and wound up his speech early, much to the delight and surprise of the crowd attending.
In a swirl he was gone, and the freshly scrubbed looking volunteers of his campaign were left buzzing around answering questions, sending cell phone photos and talking to friends on cell while completing the closing flourishes.
Now I know the source of the strange feelings of ecstasy reverberating around downtown at 6 pm. :o :D
BTW, after the event, Obama walked across the water to the Southbank.

:D :D
QuoteAs if to prove Obama's prediction, a heckler outside the convention center shouted at two women leaving the fund-raiser that they'd "burn in hell" for supporting Obama. He said that Obama is a Muslim who will "take away all our weapons."
I guess RiversideGator made it there afterall. :D

Don't be ridiculous. They WANT you to earn lots and lots of money. That way you can pay more taxes.

Keep the welfare checks coming RG! I'll be using mine on Pina Coladas with little umbrellas.

Funny but true. The trouble is people respond to negative incentives such as higher taxes so they work less or earn less taxable income at least. This is why the taxes account for roughly the same percentage of GDP no matter the rates. People work around them or just dont work.
clearly higher tax rates have been a terrible thing for Europe....America's infrastructure isn't crubmling, and surely we don't need all those good schools and high speed rail systems!
