What's the point of a beer festival with no local beers? That's just dumb

...but is this a reason to kind of passive aggressively shit on this event?

Excellent point. Perhaps you should ask yourself the same question more.

I can only assume this festival isn't doing too well with sales. Free tickets seem to be easier to get than a Tuesday practice round ticket at The Players. I've had 3 people offer me free tickets today (not MJ readers either).

We got passes with our Armada tickets last weekend. Presumably people will spend more on beer and concessions than they would on entrance.

They always give out free tickets to this dumb event. That way you show up and have to pay $6 for a dixie cup filled with Sam Adams Octoberfest.

I'm kind of OK with that - I'll have my Intuition or Bold City the rest of the year.  In fact, I wish that it was exclusively German for the same reasons I seek out Mexican beer during Cinco De Mayo or Guinness on St. Patrick's Day...

Well, this was a predictable internet forum response.

Relax Urban Core.
Sit down, I'll tell you a story.
It's about a people called suburbanites. They live in Nocatee and Deerwood and Timberlin Parc and they go to beach bars. They drive cheap fancy C class Mercedes or 3 Series Beemers or they actually splurge for a Range Rover but rent an 800/month apartment on the southside (with a room-mate)

They drink Bud Light and do Sex on the Beach Shots...and they LOVE IT BRO ! This is the type of event they love. It will be all over The Facebook. Let them have it.

This event is for them. It's put on by Champion Brands at The Town Center, for Christ sake...this is there little gig. Let them have it and enjoy it.

We can go to Bold City and Intuition and enjoy ourselves. And be happy that these people aren't there slowing down the service. Our craft breweries have plenty of events through the year. They don't need to be involved in every one.
Haha spot on! Though I am a suburbanite currently (by necessity not choice) that about sums up the crowd. I went because a friend had free tickets and I thought last years was fun so why not? Well I have to say that the location must really matter because I thought it totally sucked this year. Music was terrible, beer was expensive and obviously only boring national brands, and food was super expensive! $20 for chicken tenders?! F--- that! It just seemed really tame for a beer festival. It was all families (which are fine in moderation) and bros so needless to say me and my friends were pretty disappointed this year.
