Some pretty awesome places around the country received recognition this year.  Jacksonville should be very proud to be on this list!

I once worked for a person that owns a business on Laura street. They took a risk starting a business on Laura Street and they used their own money. Laura street just needs to get the old Barnett building and the Laura street trio buildings with somebody in them and Laura Street will be even better then it is now. Congratulations Jacksonville & Laura Street! :)

Yeah, I really hope this somehow renews interest in that project! Laura st. is nice now but it could be awesome if they get renovated and the Landing redone.

It's amazing how for downtown has come since I lived in Jax 10 years ago. Congrats to everyone who has worked on downtown revitalization projects - this honor is a big deal.

Been to Third St. in McMinnville, and it is a great place. Tons of wine and shops. Great homey vibe and some beautiful old buildings like McMeniman's and Serendipity Ice Cream. They've got a hot rod festival every year called Dragging the Gut that's supposed to be fantastic. For Laura St. to be on a list of the best with Third St. is high praise.

Well I'm a "glass half full" person regarding this story. It's crazy that Laura Street would get this designation when the 4 most important buildings, Old Barnett Bank and The Laura Street Trio (aka Marble Bank Trio) are sitting gutted and empty. I really want to imagine what this street could be like but with all the bold visions so far leading to nothing but false starts it's next to impossible.

Many of the Great Places awards given by APA are based on how planning has made the neighborhood/street/space better...and further growth (potential) is considered.
