Great news! But sad that there was actually a proposal initially to make it a surface parking lot when about 50% of the area within a 1 block radius of it is surface lot. Good to see that didn't happen and this building and a little bit of Jacksonville history will be saved. Big win for the Cathedral District and downtown!
when restored, that is going to be a beautiful building. Big win for downtown.
Great news ! It's also good to see that it was sold for a realistic price to someone who is willing to breathe new life into the building.
Looking at what is being asked for some dt buildings that need lots of work (the old Jones Bros furniture building with an asking price of close to a million comes to mind), this is also probably what stands in the way of these buildings being restored.
Jack & JoAnn have done several projects in SPR, and all are extremely well done. I'm sure the final product will be very nice.
What will be the new use? Offices, or residential?
Excellent news regardless.
As of now....residential.
great news

There's an open house of sorts on Oct 2nd, 9am-12noon.
Swing by and take a look inside.
Nice! I'll have to mark that on my calender!
I would love to see the inside of this place. Too bad so many of these beauties have been demolished over the years. This is a gorgeous structure.

The "open house of sorts" is not a true open house. To my knowledge, there will be no opportunity for folks to roam the building. There are some items in the building (doors, dressers, chairs, etc.) that are being made available to people who would like to take them. The items are grouped into one or two rooms downstairs.
If its not too much trouble, I still may swing by with the camera.
Lake, please do - they may let you see the entire building - would be very interesting to see what it looks like from the inside :)

Look for more on Monday!
Thanks - looking forward to the pics. Judging by the first one, the owners have quite a bit of work ahead.
