Title: The Jacksonville Armada fire their GM and the entire coaching staff
Post by: pierre on September 21, 2015, 01:32:25 PM
Quotehe Jacksonville Armada announced a major change in course Monday.
The club announced the dismissal of head coach Guillermo Hoyos, general manager Dario Sala and assistant coaches Edison Ibarra, Sebastian Fabres and Rafael Perez Nino.

The Armada stands 11th and last in the North American Soccer League.

The decision comes just three months after the team had extended Hoyos' contract through the end of 2019.

"Following an in-depth analysis of the team and operations, I am confident that a new direction is needed to turn around our team," Armada owner Mark Frisch said in a statement. "Our players and fans deserve our very best and I strongly believe this is what is needed for us to move forward."

Director of player development Eric Dade will take over through the end of the NASL season.

I don't pretend to know the inner workings of the Armada but surprised Sala got the axe and he had been with the organization since before they were even awarded the franchise. And the coach gets fired three months after getting an extension through 2019? Maybe this is a normal thing in the NASL.

That's a normal thing in soccer, full stop. If a manager isn't getting the results, the owner or chairman sacks him and his coaches. It's not like the NFL where they let you finish the season.

It is odd that it happened 3 months after signing an extension.

I thought so too.

And I know turnover among soccer coaches is fairly common but right after a new deal was signed.

And they let the GM go, who was with the Sunshine group before the Armada even existed. I assume there was probably issues behind the scenes there. Hopefully Frisch can bring in an experienced soccer person. The team is kind of a mess right now.

^Cool!!  :D Tony Meola was my first favorite soccer player as I became a fan watching the 1994 World Cup. What a nice throw back down memory lane, thanks!

But what's his history as a coach?
