Trump's rationale for avoiding Kelly's debate question – that neither he nor America has time for "political correctness" – taps into a popular boogeyman. The term "political correctness" is so general that to most people it simply means a discomfort with changing times and attitudes, an attack on the traditions of how we were raised. (It's an emotional challenge every generation has had to go through.) What it really means is nothing more than sensitizing people to the fact that some old-fashioned words, attitudes and actions may be harmful or insulting to others. Naturally, people are angry about that because it makes them feel stupid or mean when they really aren't. But when times change, we need to change with them in areas that strengthen our society.
It's no longer "politically correct" to call African Americans "coloreds." Or to pat a woman on the butt at work and say, "Nice job, honey." Or to ask people their religion during a job interview. Or to deny a woman a job because she's not attractive enough to you. Or to assume a person's opinion is worth less because she is elderly. Or that physically challenged individuals shouldn't have easy access to buildings. If you don't have time for political correctness, you don't have time to be the caretaker of our rights under the Constitution.

Although an adversion to political correctness is often an adversion to civility, the things you list in the in the second paragraph are not about "political correctness", as much as they are about simply "correctness". Those examples are better described as unlawful, rude, impolite or unwise (i.e. stupid), not politically incorrect.
Giving those examples as responsiblity of P.C. gives the idea of P.C. too much moral authority, giving that things "political" tend to be amoral.

I'm not called European American so when I talk about another race I call them Mexicans, Chinese, Blacks etc etc etc. And I'm a Democrat! "Or to deny a woman a job because she's not attractive enough to you." This still happens a good Friend of mine a real good looking female was hired for a front desk Receptionist job because of her looks. She told me several other people were better for the position but didn't have the looks. So this still goes on. On the down side she was laid off after 2 years of employment. :( The older you get the worst the job market because this still happens. And the "physically challenged individual" person has the highest unemployment of all people looking for a job and this just SUCKS! God I remember when the new Jacksonville court house was first finished. The handicap lawyers couldn't even get into court. In a PUBLIC BUILDING. The FTU did a story on these problems Friday July 6th 2012 By Charles Broward. But being 100% P.C. is never going to happen. Because not that many businesses are this stupid to tell you why you really didn't get the job. You only find out how stupid some business owners are after you see what they do after you're hired. A person I once worked for hired Black people just so they could get a discount on their taxes or something along these measures. But if you want to keep your job you dare not speak of it to anyone. Or how about the business owner that pays people under the table. And they say your getting a better deal? BS! People paid under the table don't get this income recorded for Social Security and the business owner doesn't pay the taxes unless they don't get caught. In all fairness I didn't read this Washington Post link. I'm just giving my Opinion on what Finehoe said.

People who decry "political correctness" as a problem in America today are simply a**holes who don't like being called out for being a**holes. Its funny you bring this up because there were actually a bunch of old white guys (protestors?) at UNF today waving "don't tread on me flags" and holding signs that read "political correctness is a mental illness". These people need to get a life. Or at very least a job! right?! haha Needless to say most of the students were happy to be "politically correct" and call them on their BS. College is a fun and interesting place.

Political Correctness is dumb I only call a Police Officer, a police officer when I'm talking to one face to face. But most times a Police officer is a Cop.

Being un-PC is an one way street, it works for liberals. That's how you can have people like George Takei calling Clarence Thomas 'a clown in blackface' with no repercussions whatsoever, but 'Insert name(s) here' says the N word within the privacy of his own home while being recorded is punished, and forever deemed a racist(s); Even Bill Maher said something about that. Liberals hate the NSA, but really love the 'recorded gotcha moments' go fig.
