Editorial cartoon sparks outrage among police. I see over on Channel 4 they have a story about how the FOP in Jacksonville what the Florida Times Union to apology. Well the FTU said "editors at the paper would not be issuing an apology to the FOP, because if they did so, they would be apologizing to someone every time they publish an editorial cartoon." The cartoon in question was printed in the FTU on Wednesday August 26th 2015 here is the cartoon in question click on this link http://www.caglecartoons.com/viewimage.asp?ID={E22FB5D0-169D-4042-8073-981CC14B5CCD}
By any standard, the cartoon is outrageous.

But it's based on truth. And it has people talking about it this is what an Editorial cartoon is for right.
statistically speaking, it is not based on truth. The scenario is contextually bankrupt as is this entire discussion about supposed endemic police racial brutality. There is no police war on blacks in America. Match up the number of incidents that have occurred, and there have been some, against actual crime statistics, and you'll wonder why there is so little law enforcement happening in high crime areas.

The officers buy food for the suspect to see if he will talk. They try and be his friend this is a cop trick so the suspect may talk, when even a "U.F. lawyer" would tell you to keep quiet. The white officer that pulled over a Black Man because he didn't have a front license plate. Would later kill the black man because the officer said the black man was trying to run over him? The officer has been changed with a crime. He will have his day in court. So both of these stories are based on Truth.
Yes, there are bad cops. But is it an epidemic? Meanwhile, African Americans are 12% of the population in America, and commit 50% of violent crime, including murder. So what do you think the problem is. Racist cops?

A lot of cops are good police officers then some have the Attitude that when they wear a badge they act like a little God. Maybe it's time officers in some neighborhoods should have two police officers all the time 24/7.

COJ will gladly raise your property taxes to support a 2 officer patrol model if that is the most effective way to approach it. If we are willing to pay for it, then it will happen.

Lets see if the city council doesn't drop the 80+ officers the new boy Mayor wants this is a start. But to pay for things like new police officers lets raise the sales tax 3 cents for all of Duval residents. But since everyone bitches & moans about taxes I blame the Politicians for the rise in crime just to save a buck, for mostly the rich folks that hardly Never help anyone else.
^I blame the criminals.

When the Politicians started running on the program No New Taxes. This doomed us all IMO. The criminals cause the crime this is true. But the Politicians and the people that cry for lower taxes should take some of the blame also.
The problem that the cartoon poses is that it contects these events in a far too simple way, and as a result, a far too incendiary way. The cartoon insinuates that the lone difference between these two events is the race of the suspect, when the reality is they couldn't be more different.
An argument can be made that its goal is to create a conversation. I don't think that was the cartoonist's goal, as the cartoon begs attention using fear and outrage rather than offering any reasonable analysis.
The real problem with the cartoon is that it's not clever at all and not even remotely funny. I've seen Banksy works with more substance.

Good points but in a editorial cartoon you have limited space. I bet you wish he would have never posted this cartoon?

I don't believe all editorial cartoons need to be funny. Some are done just to tick off people like this one has.
Who was the FTU cartoonist long established with FTU?....Gamble?
I've got a special edition Gamble- he sketched it out on the inside cover of a FTU event booklet, just about the time of Ed's departure.
The cartoon was about the FTU itself.
Gotta find it in the files, learn how to post images here.

Well I don't think its fair to describe every policeman who shoots another citizen as a criminal, downtown brown. Surely many of these acts are criminal, but many aren't.
That's not even close to what I said. The previous post seemed to blame politicians for the increase in crime. I just said I blame criminals for crime. The cartoon, I say again, is outrageous. Cops are not the problem.

Except when they are the criminals.

This. Its just a bad cartoon (with a clear bias/agenda, which was poorly executed). I've seen memes from high schoolers on 4chan that are more clever than this.
"Blackie"?? :/ I think the last time I heard that anywhere was a Droopy cartoon from the 1950s.

Wrong again when it comes to cops that shouldn't be cops this cartoon hits it right on the mark.
