Have a friend who has a northern friend coming to town in a few days and wanted to know the best place in Jax to introduce his yankee friend to some real southern food. Biscuits and gravy is his top choice. So any suggestions?
Hahahaha. This is not even close. Maple Street is the only choice.
Cool! Thanks. I knew someone on this board would know the best place.
I'll second the Maple Street suggestion. I've seen people who are normally indifferent to biscuits and gravy fall in love with theirs.
Maple Street is good. Metro Diner on Hendricks are pretty good too, and is massive. Uptown in Springfield are pretty decent also.
Maple Street for sit down. Hardee's for fast food.
Can't go wrong with either Maple Street or Metro Diner. I'm sure there are others as well.

Don't waste your time at Metro...it's generally and usually a let down.
On Sunday, you'll have to take them to Arden's on St. John's Ave between Blanding and 17.
It's a southern buffet with legit soul food. You won't leave hungry or disappointed. Try to get there before the 1 o'clock church crowd shows up. Trust me on this.
Soul Food Express at 1227 East 21st St is open Friday-Sunday. They don't have biscuits & gravy but they have great soul food. They have only a few stools to dine in but you can do take out. If you want to make a road trip, I would take hime to B&J's in Darien Georgia. They have the best fried chicken on their buffet. For lunch, it's $9 & includes your lunch, drink, salad bar & dessert.
A trip to O'steen's in St Augustine is another place he will like. North beach fish camp (Neptune beach) has great seafood, collard greens & butter beans.
Watch out, he may move down here after you show him around.

Be sure & give Arden's a try. They have a great selection & I love their vegetables. You won't go away hungry there.
Hardee's for real sausage & fresh made biscuits on Commonwealth Ave. :)

Charleston or Savannah...
In Jax - Potter's House is the only close one I know of... But more for lunch. And Beach Road Chicken is still good. On Atlantic.
I found some good biscuits & sausage gravy yesterday in St Augustine.
Check out the Blue Hen cafe.
