Honolulu is the state capital and most populous city in Hawaii. The Honolulu metropolitan area is home to 991,788 residents and is the 54th largest in the United States. Featuring a downtown and a popular beach on the Pacific Ocean, a short distance away, the city is in the midst of a highrise construction boom. With a population density of more than double that of Jacksonville's, Honolulu represents a vibrant streetscape in a tropical setting. Here's how it stacks up with downtown Jacksonville!

Not many people know that Hawaii has a large homeless problem there. Their two biggest industries is of course tourism (virtually all low paying jobs) and the military.
Yes, the median home prices are ridiculous.
Me thinks the Lakelander needs to be on vacation....and he can worry about posting articles to MJ when he gets back :)
LOL! Thelakelander is back in town....

Lake, are those houses in the 60's on the South Shore? #64 looks a lot like a house I stayed in about 15 years ago on a spring break trip. Ex GF's family friend.
Welcome back, Lake!! I'm sure you're thrilled to be back... 8)
This brought back a lot of memories. I was station at Scofield Barracks when I was in the military. Hawaii is just so beautiful and expensive. Nice place to vacation. Thanks for the tour.

Yes.
Great place. The density yields $700,000 average for some residence. Hope the noted high rise construction boom does not ultimately compromise the landscape, feel and function.
This piece reminded me of growing up in Miami,Florida- at young age the family would at times go on car tour of the burgeoning Beaches construction.
Jacksonville is two weather zones removed from Miami's sub tropical placement.
Clear water is a driver for sure. I know my folks quickly bypassed Jacksonville on the way down from their native Charlevoix,Michighan. The water!! :)
Decades later there would be a discovery of NE Florida's water recreation attributes.
Alas,as great as Hawaii may be,it's better here.
^ hold on....news flash...pretty sure I understood this post!!!
Haha. Great post Know Growth!
