Title: Scott's Budget Significantly Increases Road Construction Funding
Post by: thelakelander on June 27, 2015, 05:39:54 AM
Evidently, Scott's new budget doubles our transportation funding for local road project. Get used to the construction zones over the next few years! Projects funded include JTA's Regional Transportation Center (not the Amtrak part) near the Prime Osborn and the Fuller Warren Bridge widening.

QuoteAlthough Gov. Rick Scott vetoed more than $460 from the state budget, at least one industry came out of the process in good shape: transportation construction.

In the 2015-2016 budget, $9.3 billion is funneled to the Florida Department of Transportation for its projects. Of that amount, $633.6 million will go to resurfacing more than 2,493 lane miles and $244.8 million will go to repairing 94 bridges and replacing of 16 more.
Duval County will be a big benefactor of that transportation budget: more than $700 million in construction is slated for the county in this fiscal year, with another $100 million tagged for nearby counties.

Does it include resurfacing for regular roads, and if so, can we get FDOT to redesign these roads as complete streets?

From my understanding, these projects were already funded on the 5-Year Work Program.

After the I-10/I-95 Operational Improvements and the North Interchange projects, FDOT doesn't have any mega-million projects funded for construction.  Can all this change tomorrow?  Yup, and it certainly has, but I do know that FDOT D2 is aware and conscious of the current construction fatigue that we're all having.
