Title: Gas Prices Could mean Foot Patrol?
Post by: Downtown Dweller on June 11, 2008, 08:21:07 AM
An area in Ohio is now utilizing golf carts for patrol due to high cost of fuel. Police are also parking their cruisers and walking their beat every 15-20 minutes. Apparently this has been extremely successful in the area with both the officers and citizens. Maybe it is time JSO goes back to the drawing board and looks at this option, along with expanding the bike and mounted patrol, after all I know Springfielders have supported this idea for a long time!

Foot patrol would be highly effective in inner city neighborhoods like Downtown, Springfield, the Eastside, Durkeeville, etc.

There should be foot patrols downtown and in the surrounding neighborhoods regardless of gas prices.  This used to be known as good, effective policing.  Now, the cops blow by at 50 mph and wonder why crime is going up.  It really is annoying.

Mounted patrol would be cool in Springfield.

but we have the density to support the gas the patrol cars are using? I might agree, except blowing past hookers, drug dealers, and people hanging out up to no good is not supporting anything....just a waste of money.
