Nine months into its contract, the Friends of Hemming Park are off to a strong start, attracting nearly 200,000 visitors to the site (plus the 300,000 who came for One Spark).
Executive director Vince Cavin said the park has undergone a makeover — complete with kids zone, daily yoga and murals — and now sees a daily attendance of 250 to 300 guests.

Cavin told the Downtown Investment Authority at its Thursday meeting that the park is looking to capitalize on its success by focusing on fundraising and sustaining itself. The group has gotten several sponsors, including an $800,000 sponsorship from the Florida Times-Union.

QuoteThere is also talk of some revenue-generating ventures. After a recent trip to Detroit, Cavin said the Friends are considering establishing a Friday night beer garden, which would tentatively start in August.
The DIA hopes to see similar success at the Jacksonville Landing.

I can't believe that adding amenities worked better than than ripping them out to run off the people that were assumed to be homeless. Wow I need to post a death walk 4.

Nice months and 200,000 people? 25% of Duval County has visited downtown? 2 days worth of cars on the Fuller Warren has visited, over 9 months?

Is this napkin math or are there invisible turnstyles used? For those 200,000 what new businesses have come about as direct result of 200,000 "visitors", and do the homeless get counted daily, weekly or monthly?
