I suppose it's fairly par for the course for politicians to make a bunch of promises they can't keep, during their campaign. Seems it's already happening with Curry before he even takes office.
As his number 1 priority on the campaign trail, he promised to add 147 new cops however his transition team is saying "nope, not in the first year... that's too expensive".

To be fair, who could have expected that you actually need to train new officers (limited academy resources) and pay them.
Plus, there's the needed additional infrastructure (vehicles, equipment, work space...) which also comes as a big surprise. Could not have seen that before.
;)

+1, I mean really, guy's not even sworn in and the Alvin lovers are already beating him down. There will be plenty of time for that over the next 4 years, so pace yourselves!
It costs $20mm for the new officers and the city has an extra $22mm to work with. SO the money is there.
While I'm far from a MAB lover, I still wasn't a fan of Curry getting elected.
That said, this doesn't surprise me, but I'm not going to hold it against him either. The magic number, 147, has been more of a bullet point than anything during the campaign. I'm still of the opinion that we don't have a driving need to add anymore officers. (See multiple threads on crime) That said, and based on Williams' approach during his campaign, I would gladly welcome the hiring of full or part-time Community Service Officers.
The phrase, 'a dime holding up a dollar' applies here when you have an officer that costs $100k/yr (salary, benefits, resources, etc...) filling out paperwork that can be handled by someone costing the taxpayers $50k/yr. It also frees up more on-duty cops to actually do something useful.
So it was an unrealistic campaign promise to begin with. As long as he pushes towards his statements, it's hard to hold much against him. Especially this early in the ballgame.

I'm not a Alvin lover I did vote for him. But Curry has a long road ahead of him he has to repay so many people that gave his campaign money to get him into office. That things he said to get the Mayor ship should be taken with a grain of salt! I will sit back and see if Curry is what Jacksonville really needs or in four years We the People will kick him out of office. ;)
