QuoteThe SUV: The Next Dinosaur

Ever-rising prices at the pump are shrinking the popularity and value of a powerful icon and reshaping a piece of the American dream

By The Times-Union

Look around those gigantic tires, flared wheel wells and huge grills. You can see it reflected in the chrome of every massive SUV: America and Americans, showing off our optimism (I can move anything, tow anything), our mythic individualism (I can climb that mountain myself) and our worries (I can survive that crash).

it's quite fun to pull up next to the SUVs in traffic.  me on my bike...or my scooter.  them drinking a 1/4 gallon at a stop light.  :)

For larger families which uses more fuel, an SUV that seats eight or taking two cars?

I just bought a new Saturn Vue crossover.  Big enough for my new family of five yet gets great gas mileage (28mpg highway).  Still have my sporty little cougar for my daily commute though.  Beats having to take two cars everywhere we go as a family.
