Title: Chamblin's Slow and Steady Opening.
Post by: stephendare on June 10, 2008, 12:53:34 PM
Chamblin's Book Mine is preparing to open the cafe part of the shop sometime over the next two weeks.

There will finally be a comfortable place to sit down and take advantage of the Free WiFi once the shop opens.

The stock is slowly rolling in, and the store is almost 60 percent filled.

Menu will include sandwiches and soups and lite fare.

Also, when the cafe opens, there are a series of events planned inside, from poetry readings to group discussions.  I can't wait for this site to get off and running.

this is good news.  they will be here to stay.  i bet i have already spent 10 hours in there.  love it!!  and i am comfortable in knowing that they will be around (not an easy thing to say for newly-established downtown businesses here in Jax).

Do they have CDs or vinyl for sale?  I know they have some CDs at the Ortega Chamblin, but not a lot.  Vinyl seems like it's making a resurgence...might be worth their while to offer it?

I paid them a visit this past saturday.  The cafe seems to be up and running, serving drinks and such.  They do have tons of CDs and a large variety of DVDs as well.  They also have a magazine rack right near the front door, kind of nice.. gives it a newsstand feel.  The books are well on their way.  Its not quite the Bookmine yet, where you trip over stacks of things, but im sure it'll get there before we know it.

What are their hours?  Will they be open later in the evening or just during the day?  Any chance of them selling beer or wine in the cafe?  A frosty malt beverage might be nice along with a book...

Yes, you can trade your items in there (or get credit to buy new items there).  I think you can also take cash but you are offered less than you get for taking the store credit option.
