YES! Great news. 1000 new high paying jobs is a significant boost to the local economy.
So glad we're adding another soul-less office building to the sickeningly suburban southside.. Nevermind all that traffic... and nevermind the glut of land and existing building space DOWNTOWN.
It would be nice to see these jobs Downtown. Imagine driving down I-95 and seeing a large Deutsche Bank sign affixed to the top of one of our buildings. But, thats not going to happen. I'm sure the City is just happy to be getting the jobs, no matter where they locate. You would think a German based company would be a little more inclined to locate in the core.
I would love to see them locate downtown too but I would prefer them to be on the Southside than in another city. Downtown and the urban core will benefit tangentially from all of the good jobs as some employees will choose to at least live and spend money in these areas.
I believe Duetsche is moving into an existing building. In any event, Riverside is right on. This thing was always intended for the Southside and its better to have them on Gate Parkway, than in suburban Nashville. If we really want these companies to start seriously considering downtown, then the city has to first make a serious effort to level the playing field between the core the suburbs.

Since they're moving into an existing structure on Gate, that'd lead me to believe that rent's cheaper there than anywhere in the Core, no? Or at least, certainly that was a contributing factor in the decision to move into Gate Parkway than a vacant section of the Pru or the AT&T building or some such?
S'all about the bottom line.
Furthermore - they hired some straight out of the local university system. Bonus for the local kids! And given its location, it'll help funnel retail and food traffic into Tapestry Park. And theoretically - given gas prices and the oncoming trend to live closer to your place of employment - that might also help fill residential vacancies in T.P. as well as the new Atlantic Crossing, Sail Cove, Murabella, and the other complexes in that general area. Does nothing for traffic in there, granted, but...
