Title: $32 Million in Funding for NAS/Mayport

Quote$32M in funding for Mayport and NAS Jax passes House, heads to Senate

he U.S. House's 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill includes $32.5 million in infrastructure funding for Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
The bill, which next heads to the Senate, includes $16.1 million for construction of a Littoral Combat Ship support facility at Mayport, $8.2 million for construction of a support facility for the MQ-4 Triton unmanned aerial surveillance system and $8.2 million for an addition to the feet support facility for the Littoral Surveillance Radar System at NAS Jax.

Good news for our area bases... just hope the LCS survives.  It is on pretty shaky ground...

My last conversation with a Navy person familiar with LCS was that the LCS ships look great but are built really bad.

Lots of deaign flaws, dissimilar metal issues, difficult to repair.

I am thinking this is the dough to address that.

The article states it if infrastructure funding.  It'd for buildings and shore facilities not boats.

MILCON (Military Construction) funds, shipbuilding funds, and operations and maintenance funds all come out of different pots. The first two are budgeted five years out while the last is yearly. There's just no way for money earmarked for facilities could be used on R&D/production/repairs of the platform.

You need a support facility for the ships before the ships can be homeported here.
