Title: Best Place for a Slice...of Cake
Post by: TheCat on April 15, 2015, 02:52:10 PM
Before the edgewood bakery thread goes off the rails, where do you go for some proper cake or any dessert in the city.

For me, French Pantry, but getting to French Pantry when they are open takes a proper aligning of the stars. So, it's rare.

Right, biscotti's, not a fan. Not interested in globs of boring frosting over a cake substance.

Where else?

I used to love 3 Layers but they never seem to have the variety they used to when I go there now...
Now I stick with Amaretti Desserts on Old St. Augustine and the spumoni cheesecake at Carmine's (might be Sysco but it's still delicious!)
Also Derby is pretty good for desserts.

I always enjoy the cake, especially cheese at European Street.

Variety is less. Is quality what it once was?

Tres Leches and B'Bs both have great deserts.  Although if you do not like Biscotti's then you probably would not like B'Bs

I ate one of the cupcakes from Sweet Pete's last night for the first time.  Really good. Dense and moist. But the orange cake with butter cream at Three Layers is still my favorite.  When they make it.

I almost forgot about "let them eat cake" on St. Johns Ave near the Fox in Avondale. Really good, fresh made desserts.

Doesn't French Pantry make the Biscotti's cakes?

Our family loves Let them Eat Cake, they do a great job.  And their Berry Torte is probably my favorite cake of all time!

Years ago they did -- now Biscotti's/BBs run a bakery and produce their own cakes and maybe make them for other restaurants too... not sure about that.
