Title: Trash Cans
Post by: Driven1 on June 02, 2008, 08:06:40 PM
So, on the bike ride tonight we finish looping the Acosta bridge and all of us (9) are sitting there catching our breaths before heading back down San Jose.  We are at the corner of Friendship Fountain and MOSH parking lot.  And one of the guys pipes up and says "If I was the city of Jacksonville and I wanted to keep my city clean, I think I would have trash cans."  Another guy says, "COME ON!! This is the City of Jacksonville.  Get real."

He was right.  We all looked around and the closest can was way over IN Friendship park...none along the sidewalks there.  We need trash cans.  I bet that might eliminate the need for one or two Downtown Ambassadors as well.

Amen brother!

this is jacksontucky though and trash cans to jacksontucky are like aliens, me thinks they're scared of them.

I live near a JTA bus stop and since JTA has a rule that you cannot take drinks or food on board you'd think that JTA would install a simple trash can at the stop.  Nope, this here's jacksontucky.  I called and asked them to put a trash can there cause I was tired of the constant trash and they actually said they "didn't have the funds or resources to "install" a trash can at that stop" at this time (that was over a year ago).  I'm sure that to jacksontucky the installation of a trash can at a bus stop is like trying to build a rocket ship and fly it to Mars.  So instead, since they can't "install" one,the trash is there everyday.

Now when I see the plastic bottles and styrofoam food boxes, candy wrappers and soda cups being washed down the nearest storm drain I understand the need for jacksontucky's new stormwater drainage fee.  But I have seen some new research that this type of debris is good for the environment.  It gets washed into the river, carried out to sea and provides food (sea turtles love plastic, tastes better than jellyfish) and shelter for marine life, so I guess there's a method to jacksontucky's madness.
