Title: Voter Alert? From Family Action in Orlando
Post by: sheclown on March 16, 2015, 09:20:29 PM
pulled from facebook

QuoteDid anyone else get a "Voter Alert" today from Florida Family Action in Orlando? It said in big letters. Voter Alert!! And goes on to say..."Did you know that a number of the City Council Candidates support "Gay Rights" legislation that would compel Jacksonville's citizens to violate their religious beliefs? Did you know these same candidates also support Gender Identity & Expression legislation that would re-define male and female?" And goes on to list who does and does not support gay rights, defined as those supported by the new Florida LGBT Leadership PAC. It's a tri-fold brochure with all kinds of stuff, but too big to fit in my scanner. Ugh.

BTW...Kimberly Daniels is the first name on the list of people who oppose granting special rights and supporitng religious freedom.

I got one. Probably because I'm registered GOP.

I appreciate them making it easier for me to know which bigots to avoid voting for.

The politics of fear, is the GOP's and the Right's stock in trade. Multiplication by division.  This should surprise no one. The only surprise is that they didn't go to the trouble to get a JAX address for the mailing.

Things like this and Kimberly Daniels' ad in the Times-Union last week, just make me sick to my stomach. I'll never understand why making your fellow human being suffer is an okay thing to do, especially when not so long ago, you could have been in their shoes.

Lisa king got attacked on Facebook by someone at her church (who is friends w/ her) saying..." I didn't know you were against Religious Freedoms??? Blah, blah, blah.....can't believe you feel this way!  Lisa's friends gave her support, but is was bizarre how this woman who sat next to Lisa in Church 2 days ago, went to FaceBook to try and humiliate her.   My fears; there is a large religious contingent who are not willing to listen or face reality.  Blind Faith means nothing.

I have no doubt that the person that is hooked up to this organization and drove this mailer is Kimberly Daniels with the help of a couple of candidates and sitting council members.  Daniels is hooked into all of the organizations in the state that adhere to the philosophy of allowing their religious beliefs to trump civil rights as well as federal, state and local law.  They are fanatics the lot and the organization gains strength from a variety of pastors and churches who promote bigotry toward gays by using the bible, their money and fear.  Daniels is the poison that spoiled the barrel here in Jacksonville and it should be no surprise to anyone that those supporting her like sitting Councilman Reggie Brown and Congresswoman Corrine Brown are all well aware of these efforts.  Shameful stuff.

Gloria, is there any statement on the flyer saying it is a political advertisement and that it is "paid for" by this organization?

So who is John Stemberger?  Try this on for size. He has been up in his homophobia for a very long time.

QuoteBy Jeremy Hooper, Special Projects Consultant |
May 2, 2013
We sure are seeing a lot of John Stemberger lately.

On background, he is the longtime "pro-family" activist who was behind prominent campaigns like the amendment that banned marriage equality in his home state of Florida.  In the more immediate sense, he is now the public face of the current national effort to keep the Boy Scouts discriminatory, which he calls "On My Honor."  But who is John Stemberger really?

He claims his current cause against the Boy Scouts is non-discriminatory. However, this is the same guy who opposed basic nondiscrimination ordinances in his home state of Florida because he claims equality activists are "a radical group of political operatives who want to force their aberrant views on human sexuality upon the rest of society by the mandate and penalty of law."

He denies that he is out to harm any kinds of families, yet he admits he sees two moms or two dads as "an objectively inferior choice" amid claims "that homosexuals as a population have disproportionally higher rates of social, mental and physical pathologies." He's even claimed that "ased upon the best interest standard the law probably ought to also prohibit gay foster care, but it does not."

He acts like he has no problem with Boy Scouts who have what he refers to as "same sex attractions." But for years now, his organization, the Florida Family Policy Council, has hosted an extensive resource page on "leaving the gay lifestyle," with links to truly fringe groups like the Restored Hope Network.

He chastises corporate support for equal scouting. Only thing? He had no problem promoting a prominent fast food COO's claim that marriage equality is "inviting God's Judgement on the nation."

He pretends he is fine with kids living as they are, so long as what he sees as a political cause is kept out of scouting. But this is the same person who once gave a political speech where he used (read: exploited) a transgender kid's story and his opposition to it as an example of what motivates him to do his own advocacy work. He decried that this five-year-old's gender identity as being "a sinful little thought."

This weekend (Sunday, 5/5), Mr. Stemberger will team up with the Family Research Council, an organization that has never met an LGBT-accepting cause it couldn't decry, for an event they are calling "Stand with Scouts Sunday."  But I ask again: who is this John Stemberger and what really motivates him to join forces with groups whose leaders make no bones about their animus  and pastors who compare same-sex unions to those that might exist between a human and a dog or horse?  Is Mr. Stemberger's cause, which he positions as one of "honor," really just about this one institutition and its supposed need to "protect" young boys from gays?

QuoteOne attorney in Rifqa case sues another, Orlando's John Stemberger
September 7, 2010|By Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel
A Muslim attorney on one side of the Rifqa Bary dispute has filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit against Orlando attorney John Stemberger, an activist Christian attorney who worked for the other side.

The suit was filed by Omar Tarazi in federal court in Columbus, Ohio, Friday. It names Stemberger , who leads the conservative Florida Family Policy Council.

Also being sued is a blogger from elsewhere, Pamela Oshry, who writes under the name Pamela Geller at the website Atlas Shrugged and penned scathing anti-Muslim posts after Rifqa ran away from home in July 2009, saying she was afraid her Muslim parents would kill her for converting to Christianity.

Tarazi represented Rifqa's parents in Columbus juvenile court as they battled for months but lost their attempt to win back their daughter. She turned 18 last month.

Stemberger represented Rifqa for several weeks in Florida, after she ran away but before a state circuit judge in Orlando ordered her returned to Ohio.

In the suit, Tarazi accuses Stemberger of falsely claiming on Fox News that Tarazi was associated with a Columbus-area mosque that had ties to terrorists. It also says Stemberger defamed Tarazi by saying Rifqa's parents fired qualified court-appointed Ohio attorneys to use only one – Tarazi – who was paid by a pro-Muslim group in Ohio, the Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR.

Tarazi was paid by no one, according to the suit.

Stemberger on Tuesday called the suit "ridiculous and frivilous."

"This is just an attempt at grandstanding after a loss," he said.

Stemberger acknowledged but would not discuss an investigation by the Florida Bar into possible ethics violations by him for statements he made about the case.

Oshry published web posts that falsely said Tarazi had joined Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist organization, and received payments from " 'criminal' organizations with 'ties' to terrorists," according to the suit.

She did not respond to an email Tuesday afternoon, seeking comment.

sheclown, Thanks for posting the flyer as I had no idea what it said, and CC thanks again for all your research. It has been so helpful when you give us background facts when a name or organization shows up.
I'm less inclined to think Kimberly Daniels set this up.....i think this group is the type who would send these nasty, hateful mailer to any districts in FL where HRO is an issue.  I see Kimberly Daniels using every single penny she has on Herself.............She used the 30K Rummels gave her in february and March on Sunday's ad.
It disgusts me how many people are buying this snake oil disguised as being the litmus test for being a real "Christian".   The hate, anger, disgust and utter nonsense these people say while being wrapped around a Bible never ceases to amaze me negativity.

I can understand Jax native except that most are unaware that Daniels has a statewide network of pastors of which she is a leading personality that are hooked up with all of these efforts.  I have seen it first hand in a meeting where they were all discussing issues of how to get around church and politics laws and what to do about the "gays".

I think facts are important when the issue impacts our community politically, socially and morally.  People need to get a handle on why things happen politically they way they do in Jacksonville and in this case Florida.  Corrine Browns gerrymandered district includes many of the places this organization list as strongholds.

And, ironically, they also helped get our message out by listing the group that we've endorsed.  For the most part.

John Stemberger came to Jacksonville a lot in 2012 to attend City Council and Committee meetings.  He and Ginger Soud are close.  He's the Florida version of Tony Perkins.  He makes his money on hate.

If anything, they probably took the "data" from the Raymond Johnson candidate survey and added some details.  All birds of a feather, if you ask me...

I agree with you, Jimmy.  They've probably noticed that and the one next week won't have "your" list on it.  One of my friends said "thank for the list. Now I know who to vote FOR. I'll tear that off and throw the rest away."
