Title: What happened to Crazy Egg?
Post by: MissMinda on March 02, 2015, 12:20:31 PM
Does anyone know the story? I drove by the other day and it has a different name.

Maple Street moved in and showed Murray Hill that you can pay the same amount of money for a much more delicious product.

It's now the Edgewood dinner and very similar to what it was.

I saw that too. Also noticed The Fringe cafe didn't have a sign up anymore. They out of business?

I think I heard that it was bought by the owners of Beaches Diner. Thus the name change. And they will be serving dinner as well as breakfast and lunch. So goodbye to crazy eggs.

Yes John Allen closed up the cafe.  It was doing well, but I suspect there were too many heathens actually eating there for the comfort of the general manager, Flip.

I got that vibe when I was in there a few times. :(

Salvation numbers weren't up to snuff, eh?  It's all about the bottom line, I guess.

It was a cool place, but I got the feeling it was there to serve a certain demographic. That was me not really knowing the first thing about the place (other than it was there & a new cafe). Was just the feeling I got by the people in there.

So I guess Murray Hill doesn't have a proper coffee shop these days? Was hoping Bold Bean would do a small one in their space, but maybe there's no room.

The owner of Deerwood Diner and University Diner purchased the Crazy Egg back in January 2015.  Some of the menu items are the same but some have changed. They still serve coffee in the Crazy Egg cups and the servers still wearing Crazy Egg t-shirts.  Food is pretty good, I'd go back.

Last I heard, Bold Bean was planning on doing a walk up window at the roastery on Edgewood. I think the fact that a car drove through their front window put a little damper on the process.

That and John Allen had been hired with the goal of replacing the guy with a new direction.  Once there was actual energy and movement in the place again, the guy decided that he no longer wanted to retire and inevitable pettiness kind of settled in with the guy he now considered his rival.  They are back to potato chips, canned drinks, and hot dogs again.

That's sad. I really liked The Fringe and the open mic nights.

I always liked  Crazy Egg (and haven''t been there since the change) but I have to say, Metro Diner on Roosevelt is my  go to place for breakfast these days.
