End of an Era: Closing of Regency's Belk Store

An estimated 25,000 shoppers flooded Regency Square Mall and May-Cohens' first store outside of downtown on opening day in 1967. When Regency expanded, adding Sears in 1981, the store became the bridge to connect the original east mall with the new west mall.

If a mall does not keep itself up to date and work very hard on being the destination for miles around, its business will decline, guaranteed. This is even more true today when malls are struggling to get foot traffic. If you snooze, you lose. Sorry to see a large Belk closing, as I do like shopping there now and then.
Only a matter of time before the Sears side of the mall is closed for good.

Probably just waiting until Sears itself bites the dust
I'm not saying Sears is in great shape, but there are many stand-alone Sears (Melbourne has one, not to mention the "hometown" sears in St Augustine and Fernandina).
So I see that Sears attempting to be a stand-alone store, but how the chain is doing as a whole will be a bigger factor, in my opinion.
