Title: The Landing
Post by: exnewsman on January 14, 2015, 02:12:06 PM
Ate at Cinco De Mayo at the Landing yesterday. As soon as you walk in you see all this junk piled up in the corner like someone's open closet. Everything is old and worn. Desperately needs a fresh coat of paint. Nobody greets you when you come in so you don't know if you just grab a seat or you have to wait to be seated.

The food was as expected--average. The menu said they serve Coke products but when it arrived it was Pepsi in a big Pepsi glass. Never asked during the order if Pepsi was ok. It wasn't.

I think they should take a day off and just clean and paint and fix and get some new menus, etc. They have such a great view right on the river. Too bad its wasted on such a less-than-great dining experience.

The Landing also needs to doing something with the Vito's space now that its closed. Clear out all the furniture that's leaning up against the glass or cover the windows, get a temporary vendor of some sort. Anything. It looks shabby.

Half the food court vendors are gone.

Why should we entrust the future of the Landing to somebody who does so very little with it now? Just asking.

Good point.

The Landing sucks. I'd rather sit at home and do nothing than take an out of town guest there.

Embarrassing at best....

We shouldn't. His non-actions over the years speak for themselves & we all pay for it by having a poorly maintained aging hole in a feature spot of our downtown.

Next time get someone to run things who isn't an old money towney.

The only way the Landing can be used to bring the good people of Jacksonville downtown, locked in arms and singing in unity, is if there is a giant demolition party for all to attend as the Landing is leveled.

But Alvin would not be there because of "security"(no photo op).

I have to commend you just for going the distance and actually trying the food.  I went to Cinco De Mayo ON Cinco De Mayo and it was the same... 1 or 2 customers there, nobody greeted us and after walking through the filth to get to the patio, we turned around and walked back out.

I thought the major remodel/demo project was agreed upon and they were going to start soon? Is that not the case?

that is indeed not the case.  The latest design floated by Sleiman was so lackluster that the DIA is now hiring a consultant for up to $100,000 to develop an attractive and marketable project.  Furthermore, City Council did not allocate any of the money requested by Mayor Brown (he proposed borrowing) for the project.
