QuoteFlorida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began construction in early January 2015 to add a lane along eastbound I-10 from I-295 to Cassatt Avenue to improve traffic flow coming from the I-295 interchange. Lane closures begin this weekend to replace the existing pavement markings for a future traffic shift.
The existing eastbound lanes will shift onto new pavement constructed along the outside of I-10 while the new lane is built along the inside. The nearly one and a half mile-long project also includes major drainage reconstruction and widening the overpasses over Lane Avenue and Ellis Road. Other project enhancements include new guardrail, repaving some asphalt pavement, reconstructing existing concrete pavement and replacing overhead signs.
Crews are scheduled to work 24 hours a day, five days a week, but lane closures are restricted to nighttime hours along I-10. Lane closures on I-10 are allowed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. In addition, closures of the ramps to and from Cassatt and Lane avenues are allowed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Additional lane closure restrictions are in place for affected side roads, including Lane Avenue and Ellis Road. Lane closures are only allowed on Lane Avenue after 7 p.m. for northbound traffic and after 7:30 p.m. southbound. No lane closures are permitted on Ellis Road from 6-8:30 a.m. and from 4:30-7 p.m. weekdays.
The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph throughout the duration of the construction project. Speeding fines are doubled in the work zone when workers are present.
FDOT hired Superior Construction Company Southeast to build the $8.5 million project, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2016.

another FDOT project that came out of nowhere...so much for having official priorities and limited funding!

I am trying to figure out how a highway contract was let and awarded in 3 weeks. That seems to be pretty darn fast.
Now to 4 lanes each way?
3 lanes westbound, 4 lanes eastbound.
