Title: Gas is cheap, time for a transit tax
Post by: spuwho on December 20, 2014, 11:39:31 PM
With gas beginning to hit record lows, many politicos consider this an ideal time to tack on a tax or two to fund some kind of transportation effort.

So the question begs, NE Florida needs a consistent regional revenue source for comprehensive mass transit in its future, is it time for a regional fuel tax?

Not dollars, not tens of cents. Just a penny or two. Is it time?

The oil business operates on a sine wave with a frequency of about a decade. Be patient, gas will be expensive again soon enough.

Until there is an actual blueprint for a mass transit plan accompanied with an exact dollar figure of what is needed, I would not support any tax that claims it is for a "mass transit" plan. Otherwise, we won't see any of that money go towards its intended use.
